I really liked Aesir’s localization, but I like kawaii karaoke and scripts with minimal mistakes better.
Release format: MKV (310 MB, 10-bit); ordered chapters
Japanesiness: Honorifics.
Group website: http://www.chihiro-subs.com/
8thsin’s translation critique: N/A
Ji-hi’s screenshot comparisons: N/A
Karaoke.
Opening. It’s usually purple, but the second screen had some rainbow shit going on. For what they’re working with, it’s good.
Ending. Colors appear to be randomized.
Overall, this is the best karaoke of the groups doing Precure.
Typesetting.
I would like to note that it is apparently Chihiro’s policy to only typeset the episode titles. This is presumably because Chihiro doesn’t have any competent typesetters. (Yes, Kristen, I’m basically instigating a discussion on this topic in the comments section. This was the bait. :X)
Script.
These don’t fit together.
“I’d be worried if it was just you, Happy, so go find the other four quickly.
It’s mean to say that you’d be worried if it was just me.”
this -> that
Ugh, I really don’t want to explain why this change is important, because the reasoning is going to be way more complicated than people wanting to learn English are prepared to handle. But whatever. Wolfrun is referring to the effort in a blanket manner. Meaning, he’s not referring to any specific effort or efforts which he is able to point to in a metaphorical “physical closeness”. (You following me? I’m not.) Rather, he’s referring to “effort” in a metaphorically unclose manner, so you want to use “that” instead of “this”.
Fuck, I’m sorry. That explanation sucks. Just… Just take my word on this one.
Actually, she only said it twice.
Watchability: Quite watchable.
Overall grade: A-
Though I loved Aesir’s localization, Chihiro’s release is far more polished. I’m going to recommend Chihiro for this series because as cool as seeing Wolfrun get called a “big, bad wolf” is, I like grammar in my scripts.
>”error-lacking scripts”
>three script errors
???
I don’t have any particular intention to watch this show, but if I did I’d be watching Aesir for sure based on what you’ve said. A creative, entertaining script is much harder to come by than a bland literal script that happens to have a few less spelling/grammar errors. Talking in general terms, of course.
Fine. Changed.
I wouldn’t recommend against Aesir. I think they do a great job. I just wish they had an editor or a QC or something, because it does get annoying to see mistakes all the time and I didn’t feel that the quality boost in the localization for this show was enough to override what Chihiro was bringing to the table.
For people who don’t find the errors in Aesir’s script hampering and who don’t care much about karaoke, Aesir is probably the smartest choice. Just because I recommended one group as a whole does not mean that’s the best group for you, and there’s nothing wrong with that. It means I’m doing my job in presenting more information than just a simple recommendation wrapped up with a pretty “overall grade” ribbon.
>hardsubbed karaoke
>almost no typesetting
>three script errors
>A-
To be fair, there wasn’t anything to typeset and I review releases, not what I think releases will be like in the future. There was nothing to complain about on the typesetting side. Hardsubbed/softsubbed karaoke doesn’t matter to me, so I didn’t factor that in. So what I’ve got to complain about are three script errors that aren’t exactly deal-breaking. If I found a few more things to bitch at, it would have been a B+, but there wasn’t much to whine about.
when are you going to do a review about the episode of cure peace becouse there is alot of things to say about her drawing? and from what you will see you will think that from all the yellow cures she is special in few ways
Can you explain me what is so bad in hardsubbed karaoke that it deserves lowering the grade? I’m asking out of pure curiosity because I fail to think of any kind of decent argumentation.
Well I think people just like their softsubbed MKV releases you know… actually softsubbed?
It’s an aesthetic issue though, and from what I see Chihiro’s subs look fine to me (although the vertical resolution for the subs can be higher).
