Visual Review
Karaoke.
ED. The OP didn’t air this episode.
I’m not sure why Commie thought cursive text colored pink would be a good fit for this show. Because it isn’t. Actually, it’s a bad fit. For this show.
Rating: Bad, like I said.
Typesetting.
I like how they kept it in the box.
This sign isn’t significant. Well, maybe. Can’t tell cuz it isn’t translated.
La policía.
These signs are apparently signifying a timesale. Woulda liked this to have been typeset.
Interesting store name.
I didn’t think this sign would be worth typesetting (or taking a picture of), since immediately preceding this scene is a close-up on a sign that says “Staff Room”. Well, that thought only lasted until I saw FFF’s version where this was TL’d as “changing room”.
Huge issue? No, but it is a relevant sign to the episode.
You could lower your subs a few pixels temporarily, Commie. Trust me, it’d be fine.
Script Review
Karaoke.
Here’s a side-by-side of the TLs. Well, vertically anyway:
Commie
Get out of your cage
Fly toward the sky
It all starts right here, right now
Let’s picture what we can do
Unbelievable things might happen
But we can overcome them all
For our dreams
Our dreams are born from nothing
And take us (fly) to that shining sky
Spread your wings
I want to spread my wings
Now here I go, with the greatest smile on face
Let’s set out to an unknown world
Go to another world
We’ll be the ones to choose and decide the future
Let’s chase after our dreams
There will be times when we cry
But they will be precious memories
Don’t fade away
I’m sure you’ll be able to meet your future self
Get out of your cage
Fly toward the sky
FFF
Here and now is where it all begins
Let’s think of everything we can do from where we are
I’m sure we can accomplish the unbelievable if we try
We can always reach for more
All the things born from zero shine so bright
I want to soar the skies
Let’s put on our brightest smiles and go
Let’s jump into a brand new, unknown world
We can choose and shape our own futures
So let’s chase after our dreams
There might be days when we cry
But those times are important too
Don’t go anywhere, because
Your future’s waiting for you
Main Script.
The subs have the capitalization consistency of Jell-O.
JELL-O too.
I liked it. In the context of a call center, I could see terms like this being thrown around instead of people spelling it out as “read the fucking manual”.
I was hoping they’d slip up and call it cognac, but the only “slip” here is that the line’s slightly too long for the dialogue.
Brilliant. This is a pretty damn superb line. There’s other wordplay throughout the release, but this is pretty much the standout.
This was poorly handled. A better line for the second screen would be something like, “Not exactly a modern name, now is it?” or “Don’t you think that name’s is a bit dated?”
To prevent repetition of “name”, I’d change the first screen to “You really went with ‘Sadao’?”.
Yes, it’s a pun, and it works pretty well.
Yeah, not feeling… whatever this is.
FFF had
“Listen now, my lord! Only those with flexible budgets can afford to eat like this!” // “Can’t {\i1}you{\i0} be a bit more flexible?”
which in combination with Commie’s leads me to believe the intent of the line is to get across that Maou’s being wasteful. The easiest fix would be changing the first line’s “leeway” to “financial leeway”.
You mean “shot holes through”, not “opened up holes on”.
Come on, Commie. You’re really gonna fuck up this line?
“Them’s fightin’ words.”
Uhh, yes. Because there’s no one else with him. I don’t believe that was ever called into question.

Overall grade: B
This is definitely a solid release from Commie. I’ll throw out my recommendation for the show in the FFF review — I haven’t quite yet decided their score yet.
Commie is also slightly faster at releasing this so I’m cool with it winning the showdown.
Gotta admit, Commie did this much better than FFF.

D_S pls

For what it’s worth, I specifically requested that the ED styling not be too elaborate, because it’s makeshift.
The track that plays is supposed to be the OP, but obviously that can’t be the actual OP for the show. The visuals are also a bit too colourful and lively to suit the nano.ripe ED we got in episode 1. So yeah, I didn’t see much point in spending too much time on the thing.
I don’t really expect this to change your opinion of it, by the way. Just thought I’d explain the rationale behind it.
Your reasoning makes sense. I still hate it, but I get where you’re coming from.
Thankfully I’m watching Commie’s release over FFF.
