Visual Review

Karaoke.

Opening. While I enjoyed the color choice, the effect was hard to like. The bouncing cat icon was a perfect idea, but the ears aren’t visible half the time, making it awkward to watch. Had Hatsuyuki made the bouncing cat head smaller and limited its reach to the very tip of the top screen, it would have been Great. As-is, it’s only a crossed Okay.

Rating: Okay+.

Ending. I’d like this better if it weren’t getting in the way of the credits all the time, though I suppose there’s not much Hatsuyuki can do to stop that. And matching the colors would be problematic in this instance, with everything blurring together, so it can’t be helped they changed to an off-credits green.

The k-timing was pretty kawaii at least.

Rating: Okay+.

Typesetting.

The “Ha” bounces when the “Oo” does. Nice touch.

Hatsuyuki went out of their way to typeset minor signs. Impressive effort.

All the main signs were handled acceptably as well. Pretty much everything was typeset.

So the visuals crew did their part. What about the team that got put on the script? All seven of them, that is. (Tobikage, Chrouya, tyl, Chippo, Detharte, sobeit, Khaleel78)

Main Script.

You would only phrase this sentence as such if you were trying to get across that they aren’t blood relatives and (by extension) have different parents.

“After we lost our parents when I was very young, I got even closer to my sister.”

I do believe it actually can be.

I don’t get it.

That’s not the full story.

“then there’s no problem punishing you now.”

Yes, it’s implied by the scene, but if you left everything to implications, you wouldn’t have a script left.

Indeed, it matters. Not that much, but it still matters.

One more “do” and we could have the start to a pretty sweet song.

All right, majority of groups, I get that “welfare” can mean “looking out for childrens’ well-being”, but when you talk about children’s welfare in the US, nine times out of ten, people ain’t gonna think of playing around with kiddies.

gg’s translation, while coming totally out of left field, fits the idea the best. There’s no question as to the purpose of the club. With the others, it depends. And I can’t say I’m in favor of that ambiguity here.

Seven people on a script and this is the best you could come up with? Forgive me if I’m unimpressed, Hatsuyuki. You have the best release so far, but unless the other groups also pour washer fluid on their cereal, I doubt it’ll be that way for long.

I’d say that the original Japanese script itself is pretty subpar. Unless the TL is pretty good at churning out a quality script, the editor has to spend a considerable amount of time to fix and Americanize it.

By context, I’d guess that he was referring to her words rather than her tone (which seems uniformly flat since the first episode), so I’m not really convinced there. *shrugs* Just a guesslation.

    I’d much rather every group did an original translation rather than rip from CR, it leads to more diversity, which is kinda neat.
    
    When everyone uses the CR script, it feels a lot more like only one “group” is subbing the show, whereas if people do independent translations, it feels like there’s an actual competition going on.
    
    And I think that’s kinda cool. Actually, I care about that more than I care about the quality of the script, because I’m weird.

I think the Santa one is just a lame joke in Japanese – like, he makes lists of good and bad kids, but MC-chin was *so bad* in his exam that he even made Santa faint.

I don’t think you can blame Hatsuyuki for a somewhat tenuous joke in the Japanese (depends what other groups have for it, I guess).

Second point: The capped list at the beginning – isn’t she reeling off classes? I know they’re not History 101, but when they’re subjects in school, you generally do capitalise them in my experience, because it’s referring to the class itself rather than the overall subject.

Compare and contrast:

“I’ve got literature after lunch.”
“I’ve got Literature after lunch.”
