Since all you have to do is to just copy and paste the crunchy script without modifying it in order to get the same score as them, if you DO modify it but fuck up some lines, you get an automatic fail. She says beta, which means “cliched”. Horrible subs had it right with “Go ahead and live out your clichéd adolescence with your fellow scum.”

Crunchyroll got this line wrong, but Asuka took it up a notch and actually made the line even wronger.  The line above means she should be officially recognized as a hottie in some way.

EDIT: Apparently I got this line wrong too. I heard from a VERY good source (this backs it up) that what she’s actually saying is that she is hot enough to be in a brochure for a cabaret club or other sex or quasi-sex establishment. Well, I guess the “good” news is that everybody else got the line wrong, so I’m in good company ( ﾟ∀ﾟ)ｱﾊﾊ八八ﾉヽﾉヽﾉヽﾉ ＼ / ＼/ ＼

Dat font. Dat positioning. And this line alone should give these subs a fail.

Asuka Subs has the dubious distinction of actually having *worse* typesetting than Horriblesubs.

These people are real fansubbers, because they must be doing this shit purely for fun, not to actually, you know, put out a viable alternative to the competition.

  2. Asuka Subs has been total garbage since its inception. I think the entire group is just a single delusional guy who thinks the shit he puts out somehow qualifies for “worth releasing” in his own little bizarro world.

  3. They said they will TL future episodes instead of waiting for CR. Should be interesting to see if it’ll be better or worse. But as you said, it wouldn’t matter with that cancer-inducing font.

    And thus did 90% of all fansubs receive a Fail for their translation reviews.

  6. If you were given a Hatsuyuki Subs and a Horrible Subs which would you take?

    I haven’t followed Hatsuyuki ever since the VK, but seriously they just released Makai Ouji Devils and Realist so….

  7. Supposedly they’re supposed to have their own translator for ep 2+. You’ll probably have to review them again.

  8. I checked dat .ass on animetosho, and it looks like the three numbered list entries in the “Definition of Unpopular Girl” typeset are a certain “Definition List” style… which is not defined in the file. Hm.

    Then again, the fact that the two lines above those three are properly defined (Arial and all) may be more concerning.

      • I’m giving them a shot to help them out a bit. I’ve fixed their typesetting to the best I could without having to open up mocha. I didn’t really check their editing, couldn’t be bothered. Also the owner seems to be living in the past. No chapter files and other random stuff that would improve their stuff a bit. I think he messed up typesetting hard last week.
