No matter how I look at it it’s Dark_Sage’s fault these subs are worse than FTW’s!
Like what I did with the intros? It’s sort of like a choose your own adventure based on whatever makes you feel better about your sub choices.

Visual Review
Karaoke.
Opening. The general karaoke format for this has the lyrics shaking like the credits do, switching to a more static format when the song paces down, and then going into a spraypaint-like font when the screaming starts.
Rating: Good.
Insert->Ending. There’s one color shift, so that’s good. I guess.
Rating: Okay+.
Oh, and I nearly forgot. Something cool about this karaoke is that the translation was taken word-for-word from FTW’s release with absolutely no credit given anywhere. But I’m sure Commie asked. Cuz if they didn’t, there’d be drama, and I don’t think Commie wants to feed me anymore than they already regularly do. Nobody likes a Chubby_Sage.
Typesetting.
New to typesetting, are we?
Well, at least they typeset the most important sign in the sequence.
Five episodes in and they still haven’t fixed their title sign? There’s only so much you can blame on the speedsub process before taking some actual responsibility.
This is some amazing typesetting.
Wow, it fits so perfectly. It’s a modern-day Cinderella! Get out your dresses everyone, we’re going to a wedding!
Quite a bit missing in this release, yeah. Most of it’s not important, at least.
Can’t say this effort was the best I’ve seen from this group. But hey, gotta train in the newbies somehow, right? Who cares if the viewers suffer in the process?
Other.
The static image at the end was included.
Script Review
Karaoke.
I have no fucking idea what this is supposed to mean.
Is it so much to ask for a little tense consistency?
As for the ED, since Commie just copied it word-for-word from FTW’s, I’m not sure I have much feedback on that end. Good transcription skills, though!
Main Script.
This works about the same as FTW’s “miss-fit”. Probably less so, though, since it’s far less clever (and a failed translation, since those three line items are not what “unpopular” means at all). Also, if the definition isn’t immediately clear, why the fuck not stick with “mojyo”? People will need to read the typesetting anyway to get it.
The term you wanted was “femfail”. That is, if you want to pun it. But why would you want to do that? How would the meaning change by throwing an derogatory adjective (that could fit the show’s wiki description) in front of a noun used to describe females?
Oh, it wouldn’t? Then get your hands off each others’ dicks and make a goddamn readable translation.
Mix and match, motherfuckers:
Describer: fail/failed/failure of a/loser/fansubber/incompetent/washout/inept/worthless
Describee: girl/woman/lass/miss/maiden/lady/madam/mistress/dame/belle/sex wrench
Hell, you could even switch ’em up. “female failure” would work quite fine.
Point is, both Commie and FTW spent way too much effort on trying to fit in a “totally genius, I promise you guys” pun that was never going to work when the obvious answer was staring them right in the face: don’t bother.
Commie on top, FTW on the bottom. (I would NOT watch that porno.)
FTW didn’t particularly phrase this scene well, but at least they got across that this was a The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya reference (and a very blatant one at that). “Kyon” is worried here that “Haruhi” (not pictured, but referenced in the FTW release) might get interested in “Yuki” if she finds out that “Yuki” is a self-professed alien. And mentioning “Haruhi” is the important part.
So for Commie to miss calling out the reference for what it was, well, that fills me with a bit of melancholy.
For better or worse, Commie went full-tilt on Americanizing the shit out of this show. Honestly, I like it. I think it fits for a show like this where everything is supposed to be based around “daily” character interactions. Helps me to relate to the show better, ‘specially since I cuss up a fucking storm IRL too.
Just fair warning for those of you that hate it when groups put words in characters’ mouths: this release is not for you.
“I’ve never been to one with Yuu.”
are
Well, I guess it’d be “are” in standard text since the entire line is in italics. But you get what I mean.
Good reference, were you to assume there was only one “white kid” from Akira. Do a little research next time, guys.
http://akira.wikia.com/wiki/The_Espers
(Like the TMoHS scene, FTW got this right where Commie failed.)
Is this even right? Commie’s comments indicate this was “or I’d be hit by so much feminine charm, one wrong move could kill me…” before they changed it up, and UTW’s lines match the original one Commie had.
I’m gonna say this is wrong due to overediting since they don’t have a TLC for the release. Not exactly the best way to fuck up, guys.
This would work better along the lines of “It wouldn’t be good if we ran out, now would it?”

The main differentiator between the FTW and Commie releases is going to be whether or not you like your subs Americanized to the best max. If you don’t care either way, I recommend Commie’s version, because the flavor they add to the show makes it much easier to gag down, even if they don’t really understand the references.
Wee typo: “I have no fucking idea what this is supposed to be mean.”
Even though I usually prefer an Americanized script over a comparatively localized one, I’m not really comfortable with the former for this show.
Since this show is a dark comedy, I’d stick with FTW because their script is more balanced.
inb4 commie changes Unpopulass to Fansubber Sex Wrench.
For the record, Vale is in both groups, so I imagine the TL wasn’t so much stolen as it was done by the same person for both releases.
This was done with Mazui’s and Gotwoot’s Tamako Market as well. Same song translator meant same song translation.
According to both their respective staff credits, UTW has Raze and Vale TLing Watamote for them and Commie is working off a Crunchyroll script.
Except for the karaoke which CR does not do, so…
Now that I think about it, since the word “mojo” is an equivalent of a 4chan meme thought up by neckbeards, an English equivalent doesn’t have to sound catchy at all. So you’re all wrong, the correct translation for mojo is “wnb”.
FTW is now using “miss-fit”… which I like much more than unpogirls.
