I feel bad for anyone who had to suffer through the show with non-Vivid subs. What is it with good shows attracting shitty groups?

Visual Review
Karaoke.
Opening. Oh god, what is this?
Rating: “Not anything good, Dark_Sage.”
-God, to Himself
Ending. I… what? Were the OP and ED kfxers different people or something? Unlike the soulless 90s-era karaoke of the OP, the ED is essential perfection. Sensible placement, muted karaoke during the episode portion of the show, and interesting effects when the song hits its stride come full credits time. No complaints.
Rating: Great.
Typesetting.
Wanna tell me what amazing conclusions I should come up with from these shots? Cuz I’m drawing a blank.

Beauty surrounds us.
ar notes that fansubbers aren’t to blame here:
Everybody loses since it’s a broadcast issue.
If you want to blame someone, blame TV Stations saving bandwidth so they can broadcast more channels and MPEG-2 for being particularly prone to this kind of shittiness.
And I’ll gladly blame the stations for it. Unfortunately, we’re still left with three competing encodes. So the screenshot comparisons will stay.
Script Review
Main Script.
What’s rude? This script has such a logical disconnect between lines it’s infuriating.
is
lol. Also, was
If your TL can’t figure out what’s going on, have him watch the fucking show again.
There’s only so much fail I can fix because I get worn down by it. So you’re gonna see a relatively higher concentration of me throwing my hands up into the air with the “if you can’t see what’s wrong here, I don’t have time to explain it to you” excuse attached than you get from most of my other reviews.
Sorry, non-natives. I really can’t afford to write the 40-page essay this script demands — I’ve already spent far too long on this piece of shit.
You’re bad group.
Don’t wanna stare but you can’t look away.
What a conversation. In case it’s not clear from the context, the first line is said by Kiriko, the next is by Ai, and the third is by Kiriko again.
You do not respond to a question with “Because” when you’re actually ignoring the question and continuing on with something from before that never even necessitated a line beginning with “Because”. Because it’s fucking retarded.
Since when did this turn into a story about time travelers?
>from
>from
>from
This fucking blendered English is pissing me the fuck off. How broken do you have to be to write shit like this?
Here, here!
Insult to injury.
While not technically redundant, it reads that way. Fix the confusion with a bit more detail: “Even for a doctor like me, this will be the first time I’ve ever had a gravekeeper as a patient.”
I… no. That’s not what she’s asking at all. She’s asking if the dead can have designators of health attached to them since they’re, y’know, dead. She’s not asking whether the state of death is unhealthy or not.
Fuck.
They’re dead, not Jewish. Try “selfish”, not “greedy”.
You mean “false pregnancy”.
Let me just give you this whole section so you can let FLag’s brilliance sink in (this post is long enough already without me throwing in 10+ more screenshots):
Diva: I’m not so happy with this.
Diva: But there’s only one possible diagnosis.
Diva: Pseudo pregnancy.
Ai: What’s that?
Diva: It’s when the body reacts as if she were pregnant when she actually isn’t.
Pox: It increased quite a bit after God abandoned the world, and women could no longer give birth.
Pox: It occurs when the desire to have a child increases.
Kiriko: Desire to have a child…
Pox: It just means that a lot of people want to have children.
Kiriko: I know.
Scar: But I…
Diva: Yes, you’ve never thought about wanting a child.
Diva: That’s the thing I’m not happy with.
This script is so fundamentally flawed, it would make a conservative blush.
It’s not “voices”, then. It’s a voice.
No, that’s not what “in sight” means. Use “or be looked upon her” or something.
http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/in+sight
It was like magic; came from fucking nowhere!
Vivid phrased this far better: “I think I made two of them in one fell swoop!” {Though I’d take out the “I think”}
No, it’s not, because Ai doesn’t fucking write to Ulla. And how the fuck would Ulla even read her writing with Ai in the room? What, did Ai learn Braille? Bullshit; she couldn’t even manage learning how to shut the fuck up.
If Ortus was where the dead who were mistreated lived, then how the fuck is it considered a “dream-like land”?
So how do those two lines in the middle relate to the starting and ending lines? What the fuck is going on here?
What a fucking plot twist! Turns out before people get killed, they’re alive. Thanks for opening my eyes, FLag!
You don’t capitalize “southern” in this context.
http://www.proofreadnow.com/blog/bid/30440/North-East-South-or-West-Capitalize-or-Not
What exactly was he like? I don’t get it.
This is apparently a full thought. Maybe it should have been edited by someone whose brain was capable of forming one.
Odd Man Out
One thing that really raised a flag was how completely different many of FLag’s translations were from Vivid and Hatsuyuki’s releases. And not in a good way.
Have a few examples:
Hatsuyuki: “I’m Diva, Ortus Castle’s physician.”
Vivid: “I’m Diva, the Royal Doctor of Ortus.”
Hatsuyuki: “It’s my job to prevent those problems through neurosurgery, pharmacology and psychology.” {I imagine Hatsuyuki may have borrowed a bit of phrasing here from Vivid.}
Vivid: “Well, my job is to prevent all that, by using neurosurgery, pharmacology, and psychology.”
Hatsuyuki: “Why didn’t you include her title?!”
Vivid: “Why are you calling her by her name all of a sudden?!”
Hatsuyuki: “I am her fellow classmate, while also serving as her instructor.”
Vivid: “I’m both her schoolmate and her teacher.”
Hatsuyuki: “I came to tell you that the city has been placed under martial law.”
Vivid: “I came here to tell you that we are now under martial law.”
Results
Watchability: Unwatchable.
Visual grade: B
Script grade: F
Overall grade: F
This script is so intrinsically fucked, the only way to render this release watchable would be to completely rewrite the script, this time with the aid of humans who can outthink rocks. It’s complete garbage, with script inaccuracies that make it misleading and unrecomendable. There is nothing here a decent human being would find palatable, and even Satan wouldn’t serve it at his table.
Avoid this release like the group avoided learning English.
Oh, but you see, they didn’t QC this episode. I’m sure a round of QC would’ve fixed this up just fine.
It’s not a QC’s job to edit.
It was a reference to this. http://www.crymore.net/review_queue-summer-2013/comment-page-1/#comment-69550
Hairy was being sarcastic.
Ah, I see.
In my defense, I had no involvement with this project outside of backup encoding for episode 6, so I had no clue how bad this script really was.
Ah don’t worry about it. Not your fault, so it’s all good. Well, except the script. That’s not.
allmylulz
Well, at least my opinion of this group stays unchanged. :>
“I couldn’t kill my daughter who was still alive”
Right up there with “People die when they are killed” (http://i.imgur.com/hCK7iMB.jpg).
I think you’re misinterpreting this line.
He’s not saying “I tried to kill her, but she wouldn’t die.”, but “I was ready to shoot her, because I thought she was undead, but I found out she was still alive, so I didn’t have to kill her.”
You could argue that this line is poorly worded, but that’s pretty much it.
Hm? If you’re talking about the Kamisama scene, you’re wrong. So wrong, in fact, that I don’t believe you’ve even progressed past the second episode.
Minor spoilers:
This release made me unlearn English.
Thanks a lot, fansubs.
Oh, my goodness.
For those of you who missed these approximately 15 minutes of madness, Kusion discovered IMG tags work in the comments. He posted… quite a few gifs in quite a few posts, which have subsequently been removed.
Let’s try to behave here, people. :x
Damn it! I miss all the fun…

Aikawa so kawaii. Please calm down penis.
Flax is the savior of fansubbing. The long-awaited successor of Hadena has finally arrived. All hail.
D_S, you’re the best. Read your reviews(comments) is fun as hell.
Ah, why? ;_; Pls fix!
It’s empty when I look at it, which is typically what happens when people try to use HTML. What were you trying to post?
Yeah, figured as much once I saw “Kusion’s” image above. Thanks, both of you.
I’m guessing you used HTML instead of BB-Code?
Note to self: there’s no javascript to resize stuff. Don’t post large pictures.
Yup.
How hard would it be for D_S to add “.comment img {max-width:Apx;max-height:Bpx;}”?
D_S ain’t smart enough to know that shit.
^
If it gets to be an issue, I’ll just disable it rather than deal with the hassle of fucking with the code.
Approximately as hard as raising Fibi on IRC and asking him to do it.
What kind of group releases an episode without QCing it?
Did you really just ask that question?
“They’re dead, not Jewish.”
My sides.
You should review Gatchaman Crowds next since no one watches TWGOKIII
Wanna tell me what amazing conclusions I should come up with from these shots? Cuz I’m drawing a blank.

Implementing a bold and novel strategy that paid off this time.
All right, Ryuk, you can have an official A-tier Crymore Typesetting Award. Wear it proudly.
Thanks! /me puts on Crymore’s Typesetting Award

meow looks great!
rate?
I'd like to thank the fansubbing community for this award. Especially the people that helped me get this far in life: me.
I have made a terrible mistake.
>people that
This guy better not have been the “QC”
<Ryuk> Ep 1-4, 6 would have gotten at least a C- – tier
Sure… Funny how Flax always blames lack of QC for their grades…
Perhaps he used the word “people” to lure us into believing that he would go into a long list of people, as is typical of the “I’d like to thank everyone” speech, starting with his parents and moving onto the class hamster in third grade and so on. His grammatical error is, in fact, a remarkably clever misdirection.
Italics tags had damn better work.
>grammatical error
I did that on purpose, plz.

You can edit Nagi!
Why do I joint with this guy again?

What the hell are you doing? lol
Ryuk, pls.
fuck you I was pink first

It’s only an “error” if you let these grammar nazi fucks insist that it is.
Common errors are still errors. ;)
Unless you want to make a point about people being objects, in which case “that” would be the correct pronoun.
>Common errors are still errors. ;)
This line will be perfect for an upcoming post, mind if I use it?
Is this really wrong? Back is school, I was taught that “that” could be used for either living beings or objects. That was also what the book said. :/
Were they teaching strict English?
“That” is very commonly used to refer to people, and there’s some historical precedence for that as well. But in stricter use, it’s considered wrong by most sources.
For dialogue subtitles, personally I would think it’s fine unless it’s for a more learned and careful speaker.
It’s not wrong. It’s not even bad style. People that (sorry, “who”) correct others for it aren’t just being extra-sensitive about changing language — “that” has been used to refer to living beings for ages (like, since Shakespeare).
Well, people are objects. Think about it this way:
A totally hot girl joins #news and uploads a pic of herself. Would people care? No. Because she can’t actually do anything in the fagsubbing business.
People use each other; they are all tools. There’s a reason TLs have the most respect. It’s because they are the most useful people in fagsubbing.
Hell yeah. The Next Hadena.
Applause to Hadena, they got pupil @_@
“What is it with good shows attracting shitty groups?”
Maybe it’s because they don’t realize that wanting to watch a show is one thing, and to try to translate it is a different one entirely?
I bet most of the cases of unqualified fansubbers grabbing a highly anticipated show is plainly because they show interest in the show. They might be thinking “Oh I so wanna fansub a show, and this show is really awesome so I’m gonna do it!”. And that’s not exactly the wrong mentality there, but it’s the wrong approach.
To fansub a show it’s not enough to like the show, you gotta actually want to do it right. The moment you think “Just how hard can it be?” is the moment when you’re doomed to fail. And not because the work is hard or not, but because you’re entering a project half-heartedly, without thinking of how to make it the best you can and without knowing if you have what it takes for “the best you can” to be “good enough to release”.
tl;dr: “Labor of love” isn’t an excuse for “lack of quality”.
http://youtu.be/dKrNaa829K8
Imagine this with FLag as driver and Dark_Sage as the guy yelling at him.
FLag pls you have to listen to me, you’re wrecking the fansubs.
Seems you made their editor quit, D_S.
Well done.
Good.
