If the first ep doesn’t sell you on Gangsta, I don’t know what will. This shit gives me the same tinglies that Black Lagoon and Jormungand (S2) did.
But if you’re expecting a show about friends on a vacation, you’re gonna have to wait till you’re too far in to care — slumming is the name of this anime game.
Had to stop myself from reading the manga after four chapters, cuz I can only take so much of a series matching my expectations before I start to think it’s all just a cruel joke.

Lemme just quote the MAL synopsis:
Chaos Dragon is based on the role-playing fiction project Red Dragon, a story which was created by five notable character designers: Gen Urobochi (Fate/Zero), Kinoko Nasu (Kara no Kyoukai), Iduki Kougyoku (Mimizuku to Yoru no Ou), Ryohgo Narita (Durarara!!), and Simadoriru (member of the Stripe Pattern doujin circle). The results of their tabletop role-playing game sessions over six days created material for a seven-volume light novel series.
If there’s anything I’ve learned from the ever-harping shitbards I know that play DnD-style games, it’s that creativity will never factor into this show.
And with that cast of five hacks, even the neckbeards who somehow found enough literacy to stumble their way onto Crymore will have to admit that this is never going to be “as epic as my kobold mage finding out he’s only — le derp — half-kobold! The other half being dragon!”
Take a look at that budget-ass trailer and tell me this isn’t gonna be Dog Days without the self-awareness. Fuck DnD and fuck “Chaos Dragon”. This failshit’s so common I can hardly bring myself to be disappointed in this world anymore. But I am, of course.

As an adaptation of a shounen manga from the early 90s, Ushio & Tora won’t be winning any awards for… well, it won’t be winning any awards, period. But there’s a kind of nostalgic feel to it that anyone who borrowed yellowed copies of 3×3 Eyes from their local library to jerk off to cuz their dad’s dial-up internet wasn’t gonna cut it anymore can relate to.
Look, what I’m saying is, I’m not gonna judge you for watching this, but you should probably get your dad to upgrade his fucking internet connection, cuz it’s fucking 2015 let’s be serious here — I don’t care how far out in the country you are.

Uhh, it’s a plot made up by Urobuchi and four other dudes sitting around a kitchen table with a DnD booklet for a couple days. That’s… literally its selling point. Are you seriously expecting this to be Urobuchi’s come back from fucking Aldnoah, Gunslinger Stratos, Expelled from Paradise, Gargantia, and Psycho-Pass 2?
He didn’t do Psycho-Pass 2 as far as I know, but otherwise your point still stands.
Let’s face it: Urobuchi ain’t exactly saving anime anymore.
As far as I’m sure, Urobuchi only did the script for Gargantia’s first and last tv episode, the rest was only background. Psycho-pass 2 only had his name on it because he did the whole 1st season, he didn’t touch it. Gunslinger was also only planning and I’m not sure about expelled from paradise – didn’t watch it yet. And Aldnoah was good! Pretty underhanded coming from him but still above average.
Aldnoah fucking sucked. It looked pretty and that’s about it. Every single character, from Captain “DO YOU KNOW WHY MEN DON’T LIKE YOU” to angsty “Martians are the enemy!” was terribly fleshed out.
I could go on: Mr. PTSD, “My robot eye can control my fucking mouth somehow” protag-kun, “I’m continuing a war AGAINST the princess for whatever fucking reason” Slaine, etc.
Yeah, the characters sucked. But the plot development and its twists had me hooked overall good enough for a 8/10. If I cared more about characters, which were obviously overlooked, I would give it a 5 or 6, but I’m all into breath-taking twists and a well developed plot with nice start and conclusion.

Better start framing your excuse for Chaos Dragon then, because nothing about it looks good.
Well, suffering characters goes well on every dark scenario. It can’t be bad with all the budget and Urobuchi on it.
“it can’t be bad with x and y” is never a good excuse.
Just give it a try and you will know what I mean.
It’s funny because he only wrote the first 3 episodes of A.Z, he only planneed (didn’t write) the plot of Gunslinger Stratos, he worked on Expelled from Paradise in 2009, he only wrote 3 episodes in Gargantia too and he didn’t work in PP2.
And for Chaos Dragon he played a game.

Nah man also Chamber. His monologuing about the philosophical reasons for fighting and supporting his pilot were awesome and he was just generally a huge bro. If you watched with the horrid Crunchyroll script it probably was barely intelligible, though.
I went with UTW-Vivid. Not like that made the shitfest any better.

I’m almost tempted to watch Laplace just for Sakurai Takahiro, but the trailer makes it look so damn boring. And gray silhouettes grabbing students? I see where this is going.
Will watch Gangsta if someone not Funi does it, because fuck Funi’s video and hardsubs. Though supposedly CR is streaming it too, but 4 days late.
Might watch Gate and Chaos Dragon if they turn out to not be shit. Other than that there’s only a handful of shows I’m considering, and about half of them are sequels. Guess I can always start on my backlog again.
