Translation
Main Script.
Decided to have Yamada refer to herself in the third person. This, I like.
ERROR
Learn to count.
ERROR
Fine, I suppose the translation of the episode title is technically correct, but it’s still an error in goddamn principle.
ERROR
“You told your mom you’re coming here today, right?”
A lesser group would have translated hentaiteki to “perverted.”
NITPICK
So instead of “It feels so good it’s addicting,” we get… this?
NITPICK
Has anyone on God’s green earth ever referred to their boss as “Manager”?
NITPICK
Replace “little girl” to “underaged girl” to up the creep factor.
NITPICK
The line should reflect better the fact that she stopped gushing about “Kyouko-san! Kyouko-san!”
Daisuki is officially after my heart.
…I mean, Popura’s the official name, not Poplar. Deal with it, plebs.
NITPICK
“…people who are her age.”
ERROR
Souma actually says “Mashiba-san tachi” which refers to Mashiba One and Mashiba Two, who were both former yankees. It’s a subtle mistake, and it pays to be a fan of the series. Unfortunately, it looks like every group has made this error, even the ones that should know better.
I like how they handled this line (lit. translation: “‘That type of thing’? You…”)
ERROR
“And I’m NOT keeping quiet about it because it’s that hilarious!”
NITPICK
More like “little kids.”
MAJOR NITPICK
Another example of Aniplex’s schizophrenia when it comes to Westernizing their shows, yet feeding us this kind of phraseology because they lack the creative juices to work around it. If I had my way, I’d have her say “If someone even smaller were around, he might not look up to me like he used to do.” I’d say that line would definitely elicit a “WTF?” reaction from every quarter.
MAJOR NITPICK
Continuing with this shitshow, Aniplex needs to watch a badly translated Korean drama to appreciate how awesomely retarded these lines are. Maybe hardcore fans are able to blow it off because they all speak Japanese at a 4th-grade level, but I still feel sorry for the truly uninitiated.
Anyhoo, an easy fix for kouhai in this context is “working under you.”
MAJOR NITPICK
I don’t know what this is. Is she speaking about two people or just herself?
MAJOR NITPICK
Nice subject-verb agreement there.
ERROR
Nope, she speaks in the present/future tense.
NITPICK
Seriously, can the guys at Aniplex invest in a fucking reverse dictionary?
ERROR
“They’ll adopt Yamada, making Yamada happy.” Yamada only looks out for Yamada, remember that.
MINOR NITPICK
If I were translating this show, I’d go with “soap opera drama” since the context is that Yamada can’t get enough of the romantic intrigues that goes on at Wagnaria.
ERROR
Souma sez “I’ve been borrowed to go search for her a lot” (too lazy to think of a better line).
Other Observations
Once again, this is a typical derptasic Aniplex script they farmed out to some Indonesian somewhere. The less said about it, the better.
Final Grade: C-
I believe Crunchyroll handled the translation during the previous season, and the only problem with those scripts is that they tend to “streamline” a lot. Here you have a woefully unedited script that’s riddled with TL errors both avoidable and mystifying. This show has certainly taken a step down when it comes to its professional handlers. Whatever fansub group uses this script as a base will have their work cut out if they wish to shine this shit into gold.
FFF is the only acceptable choice for this show.
Vomit. Dame it is.
If I wanted ESL subs I would edit CR/Aniplex myself
Ayy lmao.
ESL?
English as a Second Language.
It’s what the classes are called in college, to differentiate from English class which usually means writing/literature.
>Professional Translation
This gets me every time.
and that’s why aniplex want fansubs from their licensed shows to disappear from MAL
Stop with the conspiracy theory bullshit.
It’s not about censoring criticism, they just don’t want people to know there are any alternatives to their service.
They don’t give a fuck about what a small group of autistic manchildren think of their subs, they just don’t want the masses to know they could get it for free.
Are you suggesting there are viewers who DON’T know they can watch anime for free? Really? You literally type “[some anime name] episode X” into Google and bam, enjoy. Believe me, no one is under the impression that they have to pay to watch anime, and those behind officialsubs would have to be retarded to not understand that.
Though the first things that pop up in google searches are streams that use CR/Funi/Daisuki rips
So TL;DR fansubbing is still ded.
Yeah, well I wasn’t trying to say they’d be fansubs. Just that trying to stop people watching their official simulcasts for free is completely futile since they’re always just a Google search away, fansubbing reviews on MAL or no.
It’s still just like a plan, imo
You aren’t wrong. Fansubbing dies more each season.
Because we all know you have to pay Daisuki horrendous amounts of money before they allow you to watch their streams. :D
>too stupid to grasp the concept of advertisement and premium memberships
Do you think CR is a charity organization too you fucking retard?
The lack of effort by the ‘professionals’ is quite saddening.. Been watching DameDesuYo’s release for it and really like the typesetting, the 4 different sub choices and encode. Didn’t notice anything bad with the script but seemed to flow nicely.
“an error in goddamn principal” – principle, you mean?
The first error referred to – while, yes, there are two men there she interacted with, it’s an accomplishment. You generally refer to the concept of the thing you accomplished, like if you watched all three Boku no Pico OVAs, you could say “I finally watched a shota anime”, even if you technically watched three of them.
Fixed. And just so I don’t get you wrong, are you actually defending these subs?
Is it important? All I’m saying is that I think that line reads fine.
(No, I’m not.)
Agreed. “Inami interacted with men” sounds dumb. The singular is fine in this case for the reasons you outlined.
DDY. <3
>who were both former yankees.
Dafuq?
They were traded to the Astros before the start of the season.
