Read the first chapter and you’ll get the gist. The whole manga is basically one big joke.
While I love Sakamoto, the series has been shipped off to the worst studio in the anime industry, Studio Deen, only compounding the inherent difficulties of adapting a panel-based comedy. And at this point, I’m struggling to determine if it’s even worth it to give the show a shot. Absurdity can only scale so far.
As an anime, I’ve got pretty low expectations, so I’m just gonna recommend everyone read the manga instead. Looking forward to be proven wrong, but not expecting it — I’ve been let down too many times in the past. ;_;
Sansha Sanyou (Three Leaves, Three Colors)

Shounen Maid (Hayate, But Significantly Worse)
tl;dr: A clean freak goes to live with his lazy, rich boyfriend brother. In order to earn his keep, he decides to be a live-in butler who — record scratch — has to wear a maid uniform. I wish there was more to say, but that is the entire premise of every goddamn plague-ridden page in the manga.

I read this while trashed and was struggling to get through the damn thing. Turns out with sober retrospection, it only gets worse.
There is nothing new here, nothing interesting, and nothing fun. Shounen Maid is proof evident that there is no merciful god. Skip this like hopskotch (only 60’s kids will get this).

Looks like some glorious party leader found a random kids’ manga, figured “yeah, if we copy this everyone will know how sugoi China is”, and then followed it up with the cheapest animators and voice actors they could find. I won’t even watch this ironically, that’s how bad that fucking PV looked.
China, maybe people would like you better if you weren’t such a stick-in-the-mud tryhard. It’s okay to live every once in a while, y’know?

I really like the first ep of Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. It kept me entertained and I’m looking forward to the next ep, so that’s more then most shows achieve.
Other thoughts on the ep: The town deserved their fate though, as I asked the question 2 seconds after seeing it, “what if there’s a runaway train?” It’s hard to feel bad for people too stupid to live.
The kabane don’t seem to be totally mindless, so I am interested in learning more about what rules they follow.
The manner the character avoided infection at the end of the episode seemed rather bullshit, but it looks to make a rather interesting plot point.
Sakamoto desu ga? The jokes just don’t come quick enough here in the anime to keep me interested. They got the tone right, but the pacing just isn’t there. Go read the manga, then if you’re board watch the anime.
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress look to be the 2 best shows, or at least the 2 shows I’m most interested in. Macross “she want the D” has the elements, but did not put them together right, at least in the first ep anyway.
Hmm, I suppose I could include it next time. Laziness hit me too hard this season, but at least I managed to get the PVs out. On better track than last one.
Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge seems like Hyouka rip-off???
No, Oreki and the club do things.
Tanaka literally does nothing.
And goes out of his way in order to do nothing.
That’s basically the plot of the anime.
And it’s fantastic.
There have been so many animes about nothing, it’s nice to see one where the MC truly embraces the concept.

So, who’s the nominal front-runner in quality for fansubbing Kabaneri? None of the usual legal sources seem to have picked it up.
The official source is gonna be Amazon Prime Video (lol). HorribleSubs has already transcribed the script and made a release of it.
Your other (only?) option appears to be DDY. Their release should be better, though the degree to which it is, I can’t say without looking into it.
I can now confirm Amazon is of high enough quality that you should face no issues with watching it through their player or with the HorribleSubs pseudo-rip.

DEEN is getting some slack cut from me for now considering they did a good job on Konosuba (art was a bit wonky but w/e) and they also greenlit it for a second season. They also apprentely did a good job on Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu and are giving it a second season also? Though I have not watched that yet but I will get around to it at some point.
Rakugo was fantastic. Between Konosuba, Rakugo, their upcoming sequels, and Sakamoto one can almost be tricked into thinking DEEN is suddenly quality.
We shall see. (Deen, plz, I need this.)
