91 Days, Time Travel Shoujo, Puzzle & Dragons X, Bleach: Last Reich, Dorohedoro, Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita 2… Okay, sorry, I lied a bit. Lists are boring, cut me some slack.
The Rankings – Part 1
Part 1: http://www.crymore.net/2016/07/08/summer-2016-anime-preview-part-1-the-old-romantics/
Bananya – Okay
Manga: N/A
Light Novel: N/A
Animation Production: Gathering
A three-minute series about a cat banana performs up to expectations and not a smidgen over. Such a fun concept makes it a great series to recommend, but it’s so forgettable I refuse to. Sorry normalfags, but I ain’t playing this anime rec game on easy mode.
91 Days – Good
Manga: N/A
Light Novel: N/A
Animation Production: Shuka
Damn, I am in. Seinen oozing from every pore. If it weren’t for the bitch of an MC, I’d have been willing to go quite high on this, but Japan’s one of those countries that’ll always try to take a cool concept and ruin it with a pacifist character that ruins the sweet thematic set-up with the limp-wristed ideals of virgin vegetarians.
Watch past the bitch shit and I think you’ll enjoy this as much as I wanted to. Worst case it’ll just remind you of how decent Baccano was.
Time Travel Shoujo – Bad
Manga: N/A
Light Novel: N/A
Animation Production: Wao World
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkTOlQ0o5EI
Look, it’s a children’s show that attempts to highlight world history by rewriting it all as being caused by a time traveling Japanese girl. How did William Gilbert learn about magnets? The Japanese! How did Samuel Morse create Morse Code? The Japanese! How did the Nazis further their knowledge of human biology without dirtying their hands by vivisecting living people, injecting them with disease cocktails, or studying the effects of hypothermia and frostbite on prisoners of war?
…You know, I’m starting to think I’m a bit outside this show’s target audience.
Puzzle and Dragons Cross – Great
Manga: N/A
Light Novel: N/A
Animation Production: Pierrot

This show has milf Yuno Gasai. Had to use up an entire bottle of carpet cleaner after that, but it was fucking worth it.
The rest of the show gets, like, a 1/10. But since Funimation hardsubs their shitty guesslations, you can throw the show on 2.5x speed and pause it when you get to the milf scenes. Gotta love real-life cheat codes.
Alderamin on the Sky – Great
Manga: http://bato.to/reader#448e537847ecf4b7_3
Light Novel: https://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=Tenkyou_no_Alderamin#Volume_1_.28Full_Text.29
Animation Production: Madhouse

Think A Pilot’s Love Song crossed with Arslan Senki, and then take my words with a grain of salt because despite loving both series I never actually finished them. Still, I’m fucking all about this shit and may even be assed to finish it. Lazy, mentally OP generals are always fun to watch. You liked Shikamaru, right? Watch it, for him.
Scared Rider Xechs – Okay
Manga: N/A
Light Novel: N/A
Animation Production: Satelight
I love how fujobait series always include at least one super hot chick for Dark_Sage. And that’s really the takeaway here: Dark_Sage found something to fap to, so all is right in the world.
Far as the main piece of the show goes, a bunch of pretty boys fight generic monsters and Xechs each other in their super tight spandex suits. Guess they’re cute, but not cute enough for any non-fujo to spend time looking at the admittedly little that Scared Rider has to offer.
Rewrite – Great
Manga: There are a few manga for Rewrite, but, eh… if you want additional material I’d just read the VN.
Light Novel: N/A
Animation Production: 8 bit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tj9E2VKauNc
Key is back in the game. Without any of that boring baseball shit, maybe people will actually give it a shot. And by “people” I mean “Dark_Sage”.
Remember how I talked about ReLIFE as nothing all that special? Well Rewrite is something special. Everything about it screams “memorable”, from the characters to the plot to the interactions. There’s a lot of soul here, and you will absolutely be missing out on one of the best shows this season if you don’t give it a chance. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll forever be indebted to me for my top-tier recommendation. Watch with sagey confidence~
New Game! – Okay
Manga: http://bato.to/reader#a71e129b68b4340e
Light Novel: N/A
Animation Production: Doga Kobo
I mean, it’s basically the screenshot. Instead of an all-girl slice of school life series, we get an all-girl slice of salary life series. Except they aren’t vomiting from the stress and researching clean, guaranteed methods of suicide, so it ain’t much for the realism aspect.
If you like cute girls doing cute things, this is absolutely that, with nothing really new other than a change of scenery. This ain’t winning any new converts to the genre, but if you’re already sold, New Game! isn’t a bad way to spend your time.
Next up:
Qualidea Code, Amanchu, and… uhh, idk. Your call, cuz otherwise I’m choosing at random.
How about we get some Mob Psycho 100 action in here?
Fucking this.
Just curious, did the great D_S play the Rewrite VN? I’d advise giving that a go rather than watching a 1-cour anime adaptation.
Eh, this is an anime-exclusive arc we’re getting. I’ll watch the show before deciding whether to invest 200 hours into a single series.
pls, it’s not 200 hours.
It’s about 60 :>
But well, my point was that the anime will probably ruin the title for you, which is a shame since the VN is really great.
It probably won’t ruin anything? It has the same kind of interaction but most of the specific scenes are different enough that you won’t find yourself skipping scene after scene, even in the beginning.
So basically if you like the anime, you’ll like the VN, and it won’t ruin anything. If you don’t like the anime enough to finish it, you probably won’t enjoy the VN. And if you read the VN first, you probably won’t enjoy the anime as much. So for maximum enjoyment, watch anime -> play VN -> Harvest Festa fandisc.
Though I’ve only seen 2 episodes so far and the writers might ruin everything.
Yeah the VN is excellent, finished Kotori and Chihaya’s route and quite far into Lucia’s route. Each are vastly different yet excellent. Anime so far so far has been rushed, especially character intros. Really don’t know how this will work with 13 episodes, even with cramming and making it an original route it’s impossible with Rewrite due to how important each character is, their backstory plus all the different people involved. Each one is vitally important to piece together the puzzle and know about the Rewrite world and make sense of everything. Hoping for the best though and that they announce a 2nd season.
thanks for recommending Rewrite
it really made my day
seriously
why
Good characters, good plot. The only mystery here is in the story itself!
Ugh, I just vomited a little saying that.
Even though people make fun of you for having shit taste, I generally agree with your recommendations. I just don’t understand why you like rewrite.
I think my biggest problem with it is that it’s so all over the place, with each scene having little to do with anything that came before it, that it doesn’t build any kind of suspense to keep me wanting to watch it.
Like in the first episode, we jump around from murder dreams to girl sleeping in the woods to ghost visit to a girl stuck in a tree. By the end of the second episode we’ve been introduced to so many fucking characters, and it’s entirely unclear who will actually matter to the plot, and then at the very end they just shoehorn in the purple haired bitch, too.
It all just seems like a story a drunk friend would tell. Shit with the ghost in the school gets more and more elaborate, and then good ‘ol drunky realizes that he actually meant to tell about the meeting with the the witch girl, but just got distracted, so he hastily jumps back to her. At some point he realizes he looks like a pedo with all of the little-girl-looking characters, so he’s just like “oh yeah, there’s also this purple haired chick with like huge tits that towers over all of the other characters and she’s like super important to the story now too, so yeah.”
Well I hope rewrite will be good but then again I can only say 2 routes from the VN were actually good which were the Lucia and Akane routes. The true ending I felt was really lacking and was rather let down by it considering it was meant to be the grand final route after going through 5 other routes but nope. Kotori’s route was a decent enough introduction route and gets plus points for her VA. Chihaya’s was a poor mans UBW I feel it was the worst route only closely followed by Shizuru’s route which had so many things it was building on just for a abrupt crappy ending.
trigger warning: shit taste coming through
I think Rewrite, the VN, is way too wordy for its own good. It takes like a good few hours to get a single characters motivation across (which can be summarized in a one or two scenes). I liked the fun fun times, but the serious times…most endings were just poorly paced ass-pulls. Looking at Lucia’s ending here. I do wish they’d animate the fighting scenes. They seemed really good in my imagination.
D_S, Here’s a few new seasons you might want to look at before choosing at random (as well as a brief overview of minor details):
Food Wars! The Second Plate — Immediately jumps into the fray with another food competition
Orange — animation style is not my favorite…
Ange Vierge — Yuri fest, enemies remind me of dicks (only a little though)
and…
Mob Psycho 100 — http://prntscr.com/browuj
forgot not to add orange to my list…
solid write up so far. saved me hours of my life already not having to watch garbage to sort out the good
