tl;dr: You can skip any non-sequel airing this weekend. Everything looks like shit.
The Rankings – Part 1
Normally I’d rate on a scale of Shit to Excellent, but I’m so underwhelmed atm that most everything’s just gonna get a “Meh”.
Time Bokan 24 – Meh
tl;dr: Yatterman, but not the good one.
Animation Production: Tatsunoko Production
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqLZdQwobBI
PV on point, but still just watch Yoru no Yatterman.
Any show which starts with an apocalypse, pans immediately to a dilapidated graveyard, then spends its entire first episode setting up its main character for nothing but failure and depression has to be good.
Look, it’s good. 9/10, and you’ll never see anything like it again. Shit’s worth your time.
Anyway, leaving my soapbox to go back to the soapbox.
Shuumatsu no Izetta (Izetta, The Last Witch) – Meh
tl;dr: Magical lesbians flying on guns versus Nazis.
Manga/Light Novel: N/A.
Animation Production: Ajiado
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LC-LQFknXVI
Despite the seemingly unique premise, I’m pretty fucking sure I’ve seen all this shit before.
Sorry Japan, but Valkyria Chronicles is the bar to hit for WW2 anime bullshit, and I don’t think this is even gonna get halfway there.
Bloodivores – Meh
tl;dr: “China made an anime!”
Manga/Light Novel: N/A.
Animation Production: Creators in Pack
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a73DsbDKd-w
The Chinese invented a lot of things, but clearly pacing is not one of them.
Ao Oni – Okay
Would drink again, but wouldn’t go out of my way for it. 3/5.
Monster Hunter Stories – Meh
tl;dr: Were cash-ins always this budget?
Manga/Light Novel: There’s a Monster Hunter manga, but Stories is its own separate thing that should honestly not exist.
Animation Production: David Production
I may like Monster Hunter, but I’m about two decades out of this show’s target market. Think I’ll just go back to not playing Generations.
Magical Girl Raising Project – Meh
tl;dr: Grimdark without the grim or the dark.
Manga: N/A.
Light Novel: https://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=Magical_Girl_Raising_Project:Volume1_Prologue
Animation Production: Lerche
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3R_S13sQzzg
Ikusei Keikaku really wants to be hardcore, but its producers won’t let her. Please don’t get hype for this; disappointment is all that awaits.
Vivid Strike – Meh
tl;dr: Girls can be boys too.
Animation Production: Seven Arcs Pictures
I was interested until I learned this was a Nanoha spin-off. And until I watched the garbage PV.
Sorry, Nanoha fans, but at least you’re too old to take this personally, right? : )
Uta no Prince-sama 5000% – Meh
tl;dr: Pretty boys sing and are pretty.
Manga/Light Novel: N/A.
Animation Production: Sunrise (Of course it’s Sunrise.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gU8bT2wQuNc
Call me when we get Free! S3.
Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru – Okay
tl;dr: Ecchi.
Manga/Light Novel: There’s a lot of content out there for this series. If you’re fujoshi, you should have already read some of it, and if you aren’t, I recommend looking for it. Satan’s path is a dark road to follow, but it’s definitely a fun one.
Animation Production: Doga Kobo
Was that shit hype? Good. Now watch the actual trailer, cuz the ufotable version ain’t coming out till next year.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdqQ2ooJV-4
I learned my lesson with Usagi Drop — just because I can masturbate to it doesn’t make it good. Not at all interested in this ambien alternative.
Idol Memories – Meh
tl;dr: An idle Love Live.
Manga/Light Novel: N/A.
Animation Production: Seven Arcs Pictures
From the guy who wrote the scripts for Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Noein, Macross Zero, and RahXephon… also comes an anime from the guy who wrote the scripts for Baldr Force, Cluster Edge, Seisen Cerberus, and Argevollen. I’d question whether we’re getting Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Retarded on this one, but the PV answers that.
With just the above trailer to go off of, the music sounds like shit; I’m just gonna finish Love Live Sunshine instead of even starting this. I recommend you do the same.
Stella no Mahou (Magic of Stella) – Meh
tl;dr: 4-koma adaptation. Yuck.
Manga/Light Novel: N/A. (As I said, it is a 4-koma adaptation, but the N/A just means I can’t find shit to link you.)
Animation Production: SILVER LINK.
After Nichibros and Saiki K., I am convinced the only good Japanese comedies are about high school boys. Would love for this shit to prove me wrong, but I think we all know it won’t.
That’s All He Wrote
Really only have trailers, show descriptions, and staff lists to work off when trying to figure out what to watch for these shows. But to be honest, that seems like it’ll be enough for these. Nothing looks particularly innovative or expectation-defying, so face-value is about all they’re gonna be worth.
As-is, doesn’t look like there’s anything of value this coming weekend, which is good cuz I’ll be stuck in shitty-ass ATL for Anime Weekend Atlanta anyway. Pray for me. ;_;
Working
Haikyuu
Drifters
Keijo (?)
All Outs (?)
>non-sequels, this weekend
According to MAL, I covered them all. Was I wrong?
If you only mean this weekend, no.
Okay, my bad, but you’re still kinda wrong. For an instance, new Working isn’t a sequel. It’s not a spin-off either. Actually, it’s a main series (yes, they’ve been adapting spin-off all this time).
What would I say about this new Working that could possibly be a valuable use of my time or yours? It’s simple: If you like the series, the next iteration will probably be up your alley. If you’re like me and haven’t watched more than three episodes of that terribly unfunny trope-filled panderfest, then you should probably continue on your path of being a decent human being.
Same logic applies across the board, though obviously Working is the only super shit-tier show coming out this season.
Your Ao Oni review was pretty 10/10, but, Christ, that’s more head than yo mama can unsatisfactorily and semi-consciously give over a wine-filled evening in.
Ikusei Keikaku appears like its creator watched Madoka, thought “That Anime was popular AF, let’s make my own dark(-ish) Mahou Shoujo story!”
The main character even looks like Madoka with flowers in her hair! btw, you forgot Working
I never do sequel previews cuz the only thing to say about those is “if you liked the first season you’ll probably like the second”.
sasuga sunrise
But Sage, you forgot about the AOTS, no, the AOTY!

^Just look at those amazing character designs! That perfectly well-rounded plot with no hint of tropes! How could you not simply gush over such a series!
Also TO BE HERO looks GLORIOUS. \o/

Ohhh, a Nabeshin show! Thanks for bringing my attention to this.
I’m not sure what high standards you wanted to hold it to, but Ikusei Keikaku just surpassed my expectations. It could still limp-dick the ending, but the show at least has *some* balls.
Which episode we talking about?
Also, this is probably a better place to post seasonal thoughts: http://www.crymore.net/hey-d_s-whatcha-watchin-fall-2016/
I’ll be doing an 04 all-shows review, but just sayin’.
