Table of Contents
Visual Quality
Karaoke.
Opening. Well, it’s only sort of an opening. Fujiko narrates over an instrumental track, so I wouldn’t necessarily expect standard karaoke fare here. I do think it’s funny how Commie went the kawaii colors route with the karaoke here instead of sage.
Ending. It’s fine enough. Didn’t have any particular feelings toward or against it.
Typesetting.
Oh wow.
Script Quality
Karaoke.
The idea here is to co-opt the meaning “thievery” or “stealing”. “breaking something” has no connection to thievery, so including it here is fucking wrong.
Note: I pretty much consider the “opening” to be part of the main script. I’m only including it here so the Karaoke Script section gets some love. I neglect it too much.
These should be stylistically similar.
“Don’t speak; run.”
“Don’t run; hide.”
Semicolons used because they’re fucking kawaii.
Wordy.
“After I taught you the hard way that you couldn’t find peace anywhere.”
This is in desperate need of an English speaker’s touch. “abject cultist”? Where the fuck did you find your song TL? The Kool-Aid factory?
To fix this, I’d need to go deep into the mind of the TL, because it can read two ways. “You were supposed to be more independent than a groupie.” “You were supposed to be independent, but no more independent than a groupie.”
On second thought, I’d need more than just that to rephrase this shit. Re-TL requested, thanks. <3
Main Script.
I do like the bit of personality injected into Goemon’s sentences. He’s some formal samurai dude, so it stands to reason he might have a stylistically formal way of speaking. This is about as much as sage does with it, though.
The first line is plural and the following line is… singular? Holy fuck, how stupid can you get?
“Right, ‘friends’.”
She spent the entire episode calling him Mr. Ishikawa (instead of Ishikawa-san). So when she gets cut off here, the cut should happen like
“Mr. Ishi–”
Timing Review
Incoming. When “Timing Critique” is added as a category, you’ll know this part is done.
Results.
Watchability: Quite watchable.
Timing Grade:
Visual grade: B
Script grade: B+
Overall grade (timing results not factored in): B+
By my standards, sage is gonna be the best release to go with. Commie really dropped the ball on editing their script.
Sorry for the delay with my reviews. More coming in soon(ish). Have an AMV.
Been really wanting to pick this up… but behind with a lot of shit this season.
All well, this show is supposed to be good, right? Guess I’ll go find some [sage] torrents… Thanks for the review.
It’s good, yes.
This is probably a dumb question, but are you gonna review FFF’s Medaka?
Eventually. It’s on the list. http://www.crymore.net/review-queue/
dat AMV :D
> I do think it’s funny how Commie went the kawaii colors route with the karaoke here instead of sage.
Actually, I just kept what koda did for gg’s release, lol.
>Commie really dropped the ball on editing their script.
Too bad Funi’s translation is much better.
Funimation es number one.
Not really, considering half the episode wasn’t even translated.
Yeah, I’m sure the line that’s like “Nakama means ‘friend'” makes so much sense when you translate it as friend the entire time.
You’re going to defend the untranslated garbage strewn throughout the episode?
“A ‘samurai friend’ is… a companion, you could say.” <- So difficult, I know.
Let’s at least wait for the review to go up before we start arguing. I haven’t watched this show, but I’m intrigued.
To set your expectations, half the script is in German and your group decided not to translate any of it.
I’d have to see how it’s used.
It’s not in Japanese last time I checked.
Also no that would be wrong since he’s just saying “Oh, that word I don’t recognize means this other word in the language I do speak.”
God damn Funi is fucking good.
sage made the OP colorful/styled after after episode 3 or 4. Not sure which one.
“More coming in soon(ish)”.
Didn’t you mean “More coming in soon™”?
Oh you~
Wait half the ep is in german? I could probaby translate half of the german portion lol
Yay three years of German
I may have slightly exaggerated that. There’s a children’s song that’s a mix of German and English that has a prominent role in the story. So “Freund” gets itself worked into a lot of conversations.
I did restyle the op around ep 4, after considering that this is the only “karaoke” that we were ever likely to get.
The ED tl was horribly wrong to begin with, but fnord acknowledged that without official lyrics it was damn near impossible to get some of those lines.
As of last week we got lyrics and the ED has be drastically, completely revised.
PS. Unfortunately for that graveyard TS, I forgot to mux in the font! That’s why it looks like that…
