Visual Review
Karaoke.
Opening. Pink is pretty kawaii.
Rating: Good.
Ending. Fits perfectly. PERFECTLY.
Rating: Great.
Typesetting.
“Good-bye stomach”? There aren’t nearly enough question marks to show my reaction. And nice overlap.
Nice, Sutai.
I like how you decided to typeset this now.
Excluding the episode/title/opening, there are like 6 signs in this fucking show. You really couldn’t manage this one?
Script Review
Karaoke.
Pray tell, Mazui, how does one hug a smile?
How is this supposed to be a sentence, let alone English?
Main Script.
English!
The phrase is “(don’t) sweat the small stuff”, but you’re right, he wouldn’t say that. So don’t half-ass it — give the fucking chicken the personality he deserves.
“I’m not the type to dwell on such small matters.”
The word’s actually “empty-headed”. Not that I’d expect anyone on your staff to know that.
That reply doesn’t follow. If you want your subs to reflect human conversation (and I’m not sure you even know what that is), his response should be “That, coming from a little runt.”
“Sure” is hardly an adequate response to what she said.
Bad phrasing choice. “Totally screams Bunny Mountain, right?” would be better. (Though this is just one of a number of lines in this release that are completely sub-par and need some TLC.)
Yes, “gross”. Clearly the best word to use in this situation.
“weird”, “creepy”, “unflattering”, “messed-up”, or any other number of pejoratives are clearly inferior to the all-encompassing “gross”. Well done, Mazui!
You could just call it “okara” cuz nobody knows what the fuck “soy pulp” is either.
“too”? Why would you have “too” there? She realizes she needs to go to school, yes, but it’s not because she saw another person heading off to school.
Did you forget what happened in the past three minutes of the fucking show? Damn.
(And it doesn’t matter much, but you’re inconsistent with whether or not you want a comma preceding “too” in this release.)
I shouldn’t have to ask fotc for TL Notes to understand your “jokes”, Mazui.
You may as well have just not translated that last line because you didn’t say a damn thing with it. Even I could translate a show like this if I just used non-specific vagueries in every line.
He’s directly addressing her, you nits.
“Oh, is that you, Anko?”
What the fuck is up with Anko’s fingers? Seriously, check that shit out. Ain’t natural.
Way to be consistent.
festival-only, limited-edition
Mazui: masters of conversation.
I’ve never heard of feelings coming true.
And I don’t really think you can consider your ending deep when the final line of the show’s stated “moral” is a literal rephrasing of the previous line. Try harder, Mazui.
Results
Watchability: Watchable.
Visual grade: B+
Script grade: C
Overall grade: C+ (close to a B-, but the karaoke can’t carry the release that far)
Definitely a suitable choice for your speedsub needs, but don’t expect anything more. There’s a reason most groups have QCs and editors.

Is that K-On?
Not even half as good.
I could easily watch both seasons of K-on as well as the movie. Couldn’t watch more than one episode of this.
The bird was originally supposed to make this show interesting, as far as I remember…Now it has the become one of the most annoying characters I’ve encountered over the last few seasons
As far as my knowledge of the first episode goes, I suppose he did achieve something, but he was mostly annoying. Though it was pretty funny listening to OnoD voice a tranny!
I can overlook quite a bit, but that “happi mochi” to “happy mochi”… That’s pushing it a little too far.
I don’t care about this show nearly enough to go with Mazui just to watch it earlier. I’ll stick with GotWoot unless Commie’s is fucking incredible.
I can assure you “incredible” is not the word I’d use to describe their subs.
What are you basing that on?
I’m actually quite pleased with how the subs have turned out from ep2 onwards.
>The phrase is “(don’t) sweat the small the stuff”
You sure?
Nope.
Now, if only GotWoot’s encodes weren’t cancerous…
*cough*
>The word’s actually “empty-headed”.
I thought hyphenating only applied if it was placed before the noun (I’d find some sort of source, but I’m a bit short on time at the moment).
That’s for compound adjectives. “Empty-handed” is an adjective in its own right, and cannot be written without its hyphen.
*”Empty-headed”
Ah, okay, thanks for the explanation.
I don’t know the context, but the lines “What’s cute? That’s just gross?” sound pretty weird to me. Wouldn’t something like “What? Cute? That’s just creepy.” or “Cute? That’s just creepy.” be better”?
Those would be better, yeah.
>cuz nobody know
Tsk tsk, D_S.
As for these subs… Mazui: shitty subs for a shitty show. How is this even a C? Their Boku Ha (etc) release is also shit and I expect you to give them a D- or something.
This episode was a lot better than their previous releases for some reason. It was hard to choke their Hyouka down.
