Visual Review
Karaoke.
Opening. I can hardly condemn Commie for choosing to do their karaoke like that, what with the hardsubbed Japanese version on the screen. But it’s not like I’ll commend them for it either. It passes.
Rating: Okay.
Ending. Same deal as the OP.
Rating: Okay.
Typesetting.
What Commie had sufficed.
Script Review
Karaoke.
“our endless future will be mine”? Really? I know I should have faith in your translator’s abilities since the line is written right there in Japanese, but…
Let’s see what another group on this show had. From Doremi’s: “They continue eternally. Believe in the future and hold out your hand.” {Previous line: “What kind of dreams lie beyond the skies?”}
Oh, now that makes sense. It doesn’t flow well, but at least it’s understandable.
Main Script.
“Good editing is clearly just about throwing random idioms into scripts, regardless of how well they fit or throw off a line’s meaning.”
This is supposed to directly follow that last line. I know Cure Heart’s dumb, but she’s not actually asking if it’s possible for her friend to fall.
Damn, I shouldn’t have to watch another group’s version to get an accurate translation of a kid’s show.
Here’s what Doremi had:
“If you continue to resist, your friend is gonna take a deep fall.”
“Hey! You can’t be serious!”
I’m waiting for the first FOB to tell me those mean the same thing.
The monster she created was defeated, not her. “wrecked” is not at all the right choice of words here.
>dude
>elevator hall
My word.
Maybe your editor doesn’t understand English, but with the way you have this phrased, it means “Are you sure you don’t want to eat any dinner tonight?” in the sense of “if you don’t eat with us, you’re not going to eat at all tonight”.
That’s stupid.
“Are you sure you want to leave without having dinner with us?” or “Did you want to stay and have dinner with us tonight?” for less shitty phrasing.
“Seeya” is not a word. It’s “See ya”. Just because “ya” is slangy doesn’t meanya can attach it to anythingya want.
“I’ll be honest with her Rikka should understand then.”? This does not work as a sentence.
“I’ll be honest with her.” {Yes, grammar is important.}
“Rikka should understand.” {You don’t need the “then”, and it actually works better without it.}
Well, I guess if Commie’s gonna say that “Precure” is acceptable as such for both singular and plural forms, that’s fine. It’s a “Japanese” word, and the Japanese handle their plurals as such, so it’s an acceptable standard for Commie to–
Oh. So Commie just can’t into possessives. The first line should be “You must not speak of the Precures’ secret…” then.
And of course throughout the show this issue arises. You’d be right either way, guys. Just pick one standard and stick with it.
Top-tier language choice there.
What in the fuck? This reads like she’s blaming her friend for wanting to help. Doremi?
“She’s been with me through thick and thin.”
Oh cool, thanks.
Saw this discrepancy while watching Doremi’s. Figured I’d just ask their TL about it~
<+Dark_Sage> Ladholyman, did you get that one right?
<+Dark_Sage> Commie has: You’ve just started running for reelection.
<&Ladholyman> let me check

<&Ladholyman> when she was running in the elections
<&Ladholyman> not sure where vale got re-election

This show is aimed at five-year-old girls. You have no excuse for fucking anything up here. I’m nearly 100% certain this show came with closed captions too. :/
If Doremi also screws up, rage shall be had.
Silly D_S, this show is actually targeted at middle-aged men who don’t have romantic partners.
Then why do I like it so–
Oh. Ohh…
The mystery of your gender continues.
Welcome to /u/.

Bah, I still prefer Smile Precure over this new crap. I can’t stand the new show at all. At least the previous one was somewhat bearable.
I agree. I like Smile better.
Cute.
Wait what? How did the TL translate:
果てしなく続いてく 未来信じて手をのばして
as “I have faith in our endless future and it will be mine”?
Did they decide to skip “手をのばして”? Or is that where “it will be mine” came from?
Should be more like:
“Reach out your hand and believe in the never-ending future that awaits us”
What a terrible translation. Then again, this show is pretty shitty.
果てしなく続いてく isn’t describing the future though; it’s describing the dreams that were mentioned in the previous line. That’s why there’s a break between 果てしなく続いてく and 未来信じて手をのばして so that even kids can understand that. :V
Ahh, shit. It’s too late for me to concentrate ._.
Completely missed that space. This is why I should probably watch the episode first.
>consulting Doremi on TL issues.
Interesting decision there, D_S. Maybe you should get Rekyu to look over it as the next TL review? Seems to be a lot of disparity between the two scripts.
>This show is aimed at five-year-old girls. You have no excuse for fucking anything up here. I’m nearly 100% certain this show came with closed captions too. :/
It’s the same with Pokemon and Digimon, which suffered from fansubs from Hadena-tier groups Rocket Gang and Wolfpack Productions, both of which spat out tons of garbage subs so poorly translated feeding the captions into Google Translate would produce a more accurate result.
Pretty sad, really.
Anything to say about Curecom’s release?
Haven’t reviewed it yet.
