Note: WhyNot released a v2 a few hours ago after Solaristics yelled at them for their piss-poor performance. But I’d already written most of this review, so I was not about to scrap my post. Maybe I can get talked into a re-review once this group gets its shit together.

 

So what happened? According to WhyNot’s site, this wasn’t QC’d. But if a group is throwing a shitty script like this at a QC, something’s terribly, terribly wrong. QCs should not have to rewrite an entire script. I’d be very wary of watching their Yahari if this is really what they pass off to the one QC.

Since there are five other groups subbing this show, watching WhyNot’s seems like a risk not worth taking. But if your brand loyalty overrides your logic, feel free to roll those dice.

        • I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve lost confidence in WhyNot after the first two… less than perfect (well, maybe even bad) releases. That being said, there were a number of issues that resulted in subpar quality. (Missing TLC, editors, QC, typesetters, etc.) These issues appear to be resolved for the foreseeable future. If you haven’t lost all faith, check episode 3, it should be better.

          Also, check out the v2. Yes, it was delayed. Yes, there are still problems. But many of the worst issues that you pointed out here have been fixed.

    Let’s lower the bar a little bit: QCs should not have to function as the spellchecker. Aegisub has a built-in one, and it has the red squiggles turned on by default. Typoing into another word? Fine, QCs can take care of that. But if even Aegisub recognizes it as a mistake, it should be taken care of before it gets any further downstream.

    • Aiura’s a 4-minute show, 2 minutes of which is taken up by OP/ED, and 20 seconds of which is actual dialogue. Trust me, you could watch the damn thing raw.

          Just imagine English subtitles for an English show that are different from what is being said. Ya. It fucks up the viewing experience pretty bad.

          …and before anyone asks, sadly, my comprehension level is still not high enough for me to confidently watch the more complex shows raw.
