Visual Review

Karaoke.

Opening. I dug the color/font choice, but I guess I was too spoiled by Anime-Koi’s positioning to think anything special of this.

Rating: Okay+.

Ending. This is kind of a hard ED to nail correctly, but Meza did their best. They straight up ignored the green credits (which are hideous) and matched the characters’ colors. Wasn’t quite expecting that, but it worked out pretty well for them.

Rating: Good.

Typesetting.

Well that’s… something.

Not as good as A-Koi’s typesetting, but at least the show’s title is well handled.

Other.

The encode was kind of… not that great. This entire scene was miserable to get through.

“abuse”? Pretty sure that has a negative connotation even in the BDSM community.

And… I’m right.

Try “dominate” or something that better fits the kink.

Egh. That second line hurts.

It’s weird as shit to see these referred to as “the Goods” when you can just as easily throw in the “the Killing Goods” here.

Keeping it like this brings to mind gangster movies “You got the goods?” which is not exactly helpful imagery.

What makes the Professor get his title capitalized and the president get shafted?

“pedophile” is a bit harsh of a translation for “lolicon”. Roll it as something like “pedo” instead, if you must.

No. Red-chan didn’t do shit to help Iwai with the orienteering; she came in to help during the class trip when Iwai was getting raped by zombies. Unless you consider gang rape a marathon, this is wrong.

…so I guess this line is perfect then. Good job, Meza.

You went full bad here. Try “half bad” next time.

Oh god. This is what happens when you have fansubbers edit your subs. The word you’re looking for is “pervert”.

suspension bridge effect: you’re more likely to want to fuck someone when you’re scared than when you’re in a normal, boring situation.

At least that’s what I remember from psych class. So what she wants to say here is “You kind of frightened me back then. But holy shit did my clitoris start throbbing like a strobe light.” whereas what you have is “You were scary, like the suspension bridge effect.”

      I intend to, assuming Asenshi doesn’t rock a high enough score that I deem HorribleSubs as not competitive enough. Normally I’d do HS no matter what, but I have to be more choosy right now.

There’s no ambiguity to kill off here since slightly clearly modifies unreliable, not guy. No need for a hyphen.

The studio’s font was most certainly not something along the lines of what they went with here. But at least they handled the glow and the splitting better than Anime-Koi.

About the fetishist line, we did debate whether to leave it as that or use pervert, and intentionally decided on the former. From what she says (iirc “kono fecchime”), I wanted to keep to the original and use kind of an odd word. I don’t really agree about using “pervert”, because that’s really the standard translation of “hentai” or “ecchi”. Looking back now, I think the best option would’ve been something like “hair freak”; too bad I can’t tell that to myself a month ago.

Just in order to not make a second post without reason: HeavenlyArmed, thanks for actually going through those and giving some advice. I’ve never actually thought about matching Serif fonts with the original sign, so I’ll try to be more careful from now on. About the… variety of colors I used for the cell phone message, I was trying to match with the Japanese above it, but I suppose the finished product just looked like crap. Guess I’ll take a single color next time and hope it comes out better.

“Professor” is really more of a nickname than a title (it’s one of those written-in-kanji-but-pronounced-in-English things, like Instead and Killing Goods). Unfortunately, it just happens to be a common title in English and we ended up using it as such a lot. Could we have omitted the “the”? Probably. I think I chose not to because that sounded weird sometimes.

But in case you were wondering, yes, there was a reason behind who gets their title capitalized.
