Figured I’d knock out a Golden Time review since there’s only one group actually putting an effort into it.

Opening. The colors match the credits and work just as well on the clean scenes. The positioning is also solid.
Rating: Good.
Ending. See above comments. It doesn’t take much to make me happy.
Rating: Good.
Typesetting.
Did you notice the subs on the bottom? Good old Commie.
At least the preview sign looks good…
Other.
You know that one guy in school who constantly talked over people and thought repeating jokes made them funnier? Yeah, that guy is Commie.
What you have here is an attempt to outdo the inherent comedy of this bit by matching a scream with size-increasing subs. It doesn’t really do much for the scene other than get in the way.
Script Review
Main Script.
Most people wear branded clothing. What they’re saying here is that she wears name-brand “stuff”.
Absolutely no American student would call a class compulsory. The word we superiors use is “required”.
le hilarity. For you non-natives, this line reads “Come fuck us.”
Obviously, that’s not what they’re saying. Sasuga Commie, the funniest fansubbers around.
Someone tell me how to inherit hospitals. I could use the money.

Commie staff are utterly incapable of taking a show seriously, which makes it all the more unfortunate they did a pretty good job on this release. If you can handle their ham-fisted attempts at being funny, you’ll find decent subs here. Otherwise, you’re best off sticking with HorribleSubs or one of the fakesub releases like Chihiro or FFF.
I guess complaining about “matching a scream with size-increasing subs” goes along with your personal policy that “the subs shouldn’t draw away the viewer’s attention” (I think I remember you saying something similar, correct me if I’m wrong).
I for one like all those changes in size, fading in/out, alpha-timing (is that what it’s called?), movement and non-standard placement that Commie/Vivid sometimes do. It just works for comedies and the like. I remember the crazy stuff that happened in Commie’s Horizon, when the scrolling japanese text rolled on the screen – those were the times!
Those disgust me. They’re not a part of the show; you may as well add speech bubbles with jokes in them.
>you may as well add speech bubbles with jokes in them.
DON’T GIVE THEM ANY NEW DUMB IDEAS
Why you broadcast my plan?!
Diddle can also mean “to waste time”. You could make the argument that they were writing a double entendre into the script, rather than rewriting the line completely. In fact, the sex meaning is transitive; if she’d been saying only “come fuck us”, she wouldn’t have said “with” (unless maybe she were saying the three of them should go and practice mutual masturbation). It’s still stupid, wrong and sounds retarded, of course, and this didn’t occur to me until I was making coffee ten minutes after reading the review.
I have never, ever seen the word ‘didle’ used in any sense but ‘fuck’.

When will you allow us to edit our comments, DarkSage?
There’s nothing worse than catching a typo 5 seconds after posting a comment and being unable to do anything about it.

Let’s be serious
If you want a comment edited just leave a very generic fix note and I’ll do it for you.
ex: *inedible, not indelible
Then I’ll delete the fix note so none’s the wiser. Allowing edits would result in potential shenanigans.
It’s extremely uncommon in the non-sexual sense (at least among young people/non-squares). And in the context of this line it can’t really be interpreted as anything else.
>It’s extremely uncommon in the non-sexual sense (at least among young people/non-squares).
Agreed, which is why it’s a stupid, shitty joke, on top of not being in the show in the first place.
>And in the context of this line it can’t really be interpreted as anything else.
Because you say so? The “second” one is retarded and transparent, but it does have two possible meanings. Look at the dictionary meaning of the word (Merriam-Webster, Oxford, Wiktionary). “To waste time” = “to diddle” or “diddle around”. It’s pretty simple. And like I said, the sexual sense of “to diddle” is transitive. Would you like to come and fuck with me, Dark_Sage? I think it’s at most a 1/10 joke, but it can be considered a joke.
(For my part, I’ve never heard it in any sense other than female masturbation before today.)
> (For my part, I’ve never heard it in any sense other than female masturbation before today.)
+1
ok, honestly, who uses the word diddle? i don’t know if I have ever heard it used in conversation and certainly not by drunk people.
I’ve heard “kiddy diddler” irl.
Hey diddle diddle,
The Cat and the fiddle,
The Cow jumped over the moon.
The little Dog laughed,
To see such sport,
And the Dish ran away with the Spoon
This is why I would always replace diddle in that sense of the word with the very similar dawdle, which doesn’t have the potential sexual interpretation.
Oh nevermind I didn’t even read your post okay
I like ti when you rip into commie then give them a good review
He can’t let them off the hook completely. It probably wouldn’t feel right to him.
Not going to give us a clue whether Commie or CR’s subs were better?

read.
But reading is so hard
I read it and I didn’t think it was clear enough.
Basically, if there was a HorribleSubs review, there would be definitive values to argue, rather than “it was okay, but there were too many jokes” or “EVERYONE STOLE THESE GUYS SUBS”
I operate under the assumption fansubbers are competent enough to improve on a release when they try.
When they get a B- or below, I’ll take a look at where they screwed up and see if the Crunchy script had mistakes as well… and I’ll report the results of those sagey investigations. But generally at B+ levels I’m not gonna be worried about if the CR script had one less mistake then Commie’s. B and above is a slightly different playing field.
So they’re about equal? Aight. Thanks.
This is why I’m DLing FFF version and re-editing the show from OP through ED to my own personal tastes.
Is Kaga asking to be diddled in the OP? If not, “But I can’t move on unless there’s something inside me,” should end with “inside of me.” Either way, the line is awkward.
“Diddle around with us” would be the correct idiom, not “diddle with us.” If Commie had to be suggestive, they would have been better off using “screw around with us.”
It could be correct to say that Kaga is “heir to that famous major hospital.” “Heir of” sounds like the hospital is bequeathing itself upon its disincorporation. Also “a world-renowned” sounds more natural than “that famous major.”
PS the English signage on your 2nd and 6th typesetting examples are apparently the studio’s.
It looks like FFF is starting to put a little effort in this show. I did a quick script compare of their Ep 2 and HS’s, which yielded more than a handful of reworked lines and numerous small corrections and edits beyond just punctuation.
Given the sparseness of this Commie review, I wonder does FFF merit a reconsideration?
I’m glad I shamed them into doing something, but I dunno if I have enough time to spend on groups that will fuck over their viewers if I don’t call them out on it. Maybe. We’ll see how the rest of the season goes.
The review was sparse because I didn’t have much content to talk about. It was a solid release but nothing stood out as excellent or inspiring. A B+ is high praise though. I’m not seeing a need to recommend something else at this point. Let me know when Commie goes full retard and we’ll see.
“Absolutely no American student would call a class compulsory. The word we superiors use is “required”.”
I’d also suggest “mandatory.”
THE most WINNEST subs around! This is great for all the lovers of random humor and nice translations. ! Zimbawe!
What kind of english is this
At a guess: Zimbabwean.
