    • I seem to remember so grammatical errors as well, but nothing of this scale. Even if they’re not perfect, they’re infinitely better than Funi’s release.

  23. The third episode’s subtitles contain a leftover note from the translator: “Becky says something is cold but I can’t hear what is cold…)” But it’s only a minor error compared to everything else they fucked up.

    How did anyone look at this and think “This is release-quality”? Honestly, even Google Translate alone could do better than this. (Google’s natural language processing is getting better.)

  27. So white text with black outlines is “visual cancer” now? Or is that just because official subs happen to use it in this case? (As happened with yellow, which was used in fansubs until at least 2003.) Sure, the TS for signs is \an8 overload, but “cancer” seems a bit much. It’s not like companies can pay thousands of dollars for commercial font use licenses to match every single sign style.

    And Kochou does s-stutter quite a bit when being all tsuntsun around Kei. So I don’t see why those lines are so offensive, unless you’re enforcing some arbitrary “only one or zero s-stutters per subtitle” rule.

    Of course, I’m in agreement that the rest is pure incompetence, and I’m glad I went with ChihiroDesuYo. Hell, I even tried to be legit and watch an ep on Funi’s site, but the video glitched out as if I were trying to watch 10-bit h264 on 10-10-2010 CCCP/MPC. In retrospect, that was a good thing: Funi’s failure spared me from Funi’s failure.

    • Well, it doesn’t take much to vary the style/colours at least, so that the TS isn’t just \an8 of the default font/style. I mean, CR seem to do a much better job and surely they have the same issues regarding commercial licenses and the nature of streaming?

      I don’t think it’s wrong to call out when signs look really badly done if it’s like this – because, for instance, which chicken is which? I have no idea, and it could have been fixed with a few simple placements, instead of filling up half the screen and basically eradicating the chicken in the middle :S
