  2. Sorry to nitpick (I do it so well; I can’t help it!) but the “nor” usage is *technically* correct, because “nor” is used with the negative, not necessarily just in the “neither” construct. I do agree that it’s a bit unwieldy as it is (it would sound better with a definite article after it) but it’s not wrong. And I think the use of “or” in these situations is mostly our collective laziness with spoken language :D

    That and it does make you sound a bit like a pompous Victorian gentleman.

  7. I always wondered, what’s up with commas being inside the quotation marks that clearly belong outside? (Like in the pictures for the typesetting) It always makes me stumble while reading, expecting the quotation to continue. You don’t point it out, so is this actually correct?

    • To add onto what Anon said, punctuation inside quotes is an American English thing. That’s how we’re taught what “good English” is. But logically, I find it quite flawed (as would anyone studied in English), so I use the British English method, which is keeping all unrelated grammar to a quote outside of the quotation marks.

      But while I dislike it, it’s technically correct, and I’m not gonna mark groups down for going that route.
