Visual Review
Karaoke.
Opening. “If we add a symbol before each line, then we’ll be lauded for our ingenuity and forgiven for what is essentially a tired old blackXwhite karaoke format that doesn’t even fit!”
Rating: Bad.
Ending. Passable, but uninspiring.
Rating: Okay-.
Typesetting.
What’s there is fine, but they went out of their way to not go out of their way.
Script Review
Karaoke.
Hope you weren’t expecting quality English with your karaoke. Just sing along to the Japanese and ignore the translation like a good little leecher. Remember, these subs are free so you have to like them.
Main Script.
You don’t have beat around your wrists with a knife. But you should.
Oh god, if only we had an idiom that’d fit well here. You know, a commonly used phrase that gets the proper sentiment across while retaining a distinctive phrasing that endears it to native listeners.
Alas, if not even Cthuko (Kings of the Industry!) can think of one, it’s clear that none exist. Curse this ineffective language of ours!
The fuck are you doing, Cthuko? He flunked out of grade school. That’s the joke. Quit ruining this show with your needlessly obtuse translations. Fuck.
There aren’t nearly enough greater than symbols to sufficiently quote the retardation inherent in this line.
The scriptwriting in this release as a whole is rather poor. An example:
but not even the student council knows who they really are.
Not even the teachers or the seniors dare talk about them.
Even mentioning their name is a taboo.
And those lines were in a row. Fucking hell.
For more fun, check out how much these guys are about “about”:
class is about to start.
What are you so worked up about?
Dunno about that…
Then how about I show you around the school?
I don’t give a shit about honorifics!
Report in? About?
As for treasures, I learned about something interesting.
Have you heard about the Treasure Club?
Thinking about how long this ordeal might last has that effect on me.
Yeah. Heard about them?
We were hoping you’d know about them.
Not even the teachers or the seniors dare talk about them.
How about you switch off your “infiltration mode” when you’re here?
So what did it say about the ending of all this?
And then there’s this:
Said to allow its possessor to conquer the world,
it is the Udo Bride.
This shit makes me want to stab everyone involved in this release.
Have some more if you hate your sanity:
You’re quite the romantic, aren’t you?
>You think?
>I’d say I’m rather plain in that sense.
God, I hate fansubbers.
I wish you were tied to a board and then taken to a woodchipper.
>media classroom
Most people would call this the “media room”, since it’s just a room set up for presenting media. Then again, most people aren’t in a fansub supergroup like Cthuko! Guess they wouldn’t pass the QUALITY test.
Really, guys? “facetious”? I’d recommend you a thesaurus, but it looks like you’ve already been abusing one like a heroin addict’s veins.
Try, “And this goes without saying, but please excuse yourself now if you aren’t going to take this seriously.”
That wasn’t a question?
This is their translation for “youjo”.
You mean “part 1”. Hard to translate when you don’t have Roman numerals, huh, Vale?

Even if Cthuko had a decent release schedule, and even if they could be counted on to not pull another “lol we dropped this show but surprise now we didn’t lol” stunt… Even then, you’d be stupid to go with this release.
Amateur mistakes everywhere. Go with FFF for the best show of the season.
Are FFF and Cthhxtdduuko the only ones subbing Sekai Seifuku?
Yep. Well, there’s Crunchyroll/HorribleSubs, but the FFF release is an edit of that.
OLDFOGEYS were also doing a crunchyedit, but their name was pretty indicative. Yellow subs, white typesetting, and singable english lyrics(?)
Honestly, one of these days I wanna try doing a Crunchyedit of some show myself. I feel like their scripts are usually acceptable already, and could be pretty damn good with just some competent editing. How is that so hard for people to get right?
It’s not, really. The issue is motivation.
Well, you have to be a competent editor first.
even if they could be counted on to not pull another “lol we dropped this show but surprise now we didn’t lol”
laugh so much on this, remembering what they done last season

cthuko is going out of their way to fuck stuff up
I have a feeling I know why that was done and how it could have been avoided.
Considering the added shadows at the sides and the fact that not all the text is visible, I assume this was a horizontal pan.
So first off, add a border. Yes, bordered lines need two layers, but you can split it at the end with either my or unanimated’s automation. Next, apply mocha tracking data. You’re still working with only a single-layer typeset here, so it’s one line per frame.
Next use gradient by character to add the correct shadows to the body and border of the first line, the last line, and a couple important lines in between. Mark the lines and frame-by-frame transform between them. Then split the borders.
Lack of a border I would consider a pretty inexcusable oversight, but as for problems animating the shadow… just ask somebody. I’ve fudged difficult typesets before, but the realm of what’s actually not possible is getting smaller and smaller nowadays.
Urgh, I didn’t even realize this when I checked through ntr’s TS… I just assumed it was a part of the scene.

>You can’t judge the book by it’s cover.
No, because that’s Engrish.
Well, replace “the” with “a” and you got a idiom
You can’t judge a book by its cover
Also because that’s not the right determinative for the context.

Oh god, they are so fucking stupid
For those who can’t read moonrunes, those names are above the wrong characters.
Yeah, they’re the wrong way round.
I was the one that screwed up the half-time sign. It wasn’t listed on pad so I copied the one in the preview and did the TS.
Forgot to change the Part 2 to Part 1. Shouldn’t have happened in the first place :/
“My girly senses said so”
Not feminine intuition? Really, Cthuko?
By the way, thanks for picking my banner.
“Feminine intuition” isn’t really limited to youjos.
