Excellent (9-10/10)
Barakamon
Animation Production: Kinema Citrus (Black Bullet, Code:Breaker, Yuyushiki)
Manga: http://www.mangahere.co/manga/barakamon/v01/c001/5.html

After getting kicked out of his dojo, MC-kun heads to a rural town to power up his creativity… and finds a bunch of “quirky” characters who help him out in their own “quirky” ways.
It’s rather ironic that a story which revolves around a guy trying to make his art less generic and soulless is so cookie cutter itself. But to Barakamon’s credit, that doesn’t trip it up (too much).
Expect some heartwarming slice-of-life™®, but don’t expect to be surprised by any of it. Not like you watch anime to turn your brain on anyway, right?
Akame ga KILL!
Animation Production: White Fox (Jormungand, Steins;Gate, Super Sonico the Animation)
Manga: http://www.batoto.net/read/_/3343/akame-ga-kill_v1_ch1_by_otakami/2
“Forgettable characters kill each other forgettably” the anime.
The manga redefined suckage, but the trailer’s music managed to make me forget about the main character infesting every frame of it, so we’re gonna say the show’ll be 10/10 (just so long as the volume’s on).
Good-ish (7-8/10)
Sabagebu! (Survival Game Club!)
Animation Production: Pierrot Plus (Beelzebub, Tegami Bachi)
Manga: http://www.batoto.net/read/_/160517/sabagebu_v1_ch1_by_bikkys

After checking out the pre-air of episode 1, I can say with certainty that the anime is not nearly as awful as the manga. In fact, I nearly enjoyed it.
Unlike Upotte or C3-bu or Girls und Panzer, this show manages to stay out of its own butt long enough to hand us an enjoyable product. Whether that’s by the asshole narrator snarkily commenting on every goddamn thing, or by the asshole narrator snarkily commenting on every goddamn thing, the show manages to find a way to keep you occupied with thoughts other than “I don’t even know why I’m an anime fan, won’t someone please kill me?”
I recommend grabbing the pre-air right now. It looks terrible, but you might as well take advantage of this calm before the flood of new series.
Seirei Tsukai no Kenbu (Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance)
Animation Production: TNK (Kannazuki no Miko, Daimidaler the Sound Robot, High School DxD)
Manga: http://www.batoto.net/read/_/134022/seirei-tsukai-no-kenbu_ch1_by_village-idiot
Louise Clair is a magician at the Tristein Academy Areishia Spirit Academy. An upcoming test at her academy requires her to contract with a powerful familiar — a servant and partner to support her as a magician. Despite desiring a familiar that would be superior to her constantly mocking classmates’, Louise Clair ends up contracting with Hiraga Saito Kamito, your average Japanese boy.
Really, the only difference between Seirei and its source material is that the best girl doesn’t end up with a bald piece of shit, that heartbreaking slut, fuck.
As such, I have it for an 8/10 prediction slot. Let’s go, mahou!
Zankyou no Terror (Terror in Resonance)
Animation Production: Mappa (Teekyuu, Hajime no Ippo Rising, Kids on the Slope)
Manga: N/A
Fuji TV wanted another Eden of the East-tier hit, so they conscripted a washed-up director (Watanabe, the “genius” behind Space Dandy) and a low-output studio to take advantage of easily impressed self-proclaimed intellectuals. Or at least that’s what they said when I went to their noitaminA panel at Sakuracon (I need to get that write-up done soon…).
Expect to be entertained, but don’t expect your mind to strain itself. If Zankyou can hold itself back from shoving its morals down our throats like it’s got a gag reflex fetish, it might be bearable. Fingers crossed that’s the case, cuz I wanna enjoy all the emo kid tears that are likely to be present in this pretense-fest.
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun
Animation Production: Dogakobo (Yuruyuri, GJ-bu, Mikakunin de Shinkoukei)
Manga: http://www.batoto.net/read/_/39940/gekkan-shoujo-nozaki-kun_v1_ch1_by_panda-scans/2
The manga is 10/10.
But the PV…
Welp, just gotta place our faith in the studio behind Mikakunin. plzadaptwell.
Mehdiocre/Okay (5-6/10)
Rokujouma no Shinryakusha (Invaders of the Rokujouma)
Animation Production: Silver Link (Watamote, Fate/Kaleid Liner, Strike the Blood)
Manga: N/A
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DxR1fBl7A8
Rokuwhatever is a love comedy that revolves around the protagonist being unable to tell that each of his seven love interests’ faces is exactly the same. Will he discover the secret before you fall asleep? With 12 eps of this bullshit incoming, the odds are pretty stacked against him.
Tokyo ESP
Animation Production: Xebec (Future Card Buddyfight, Nyarlko-san W, Negima)
Manga: http://www.batoto.net/read/_/30155/tokyo-esp_v1_ch1_by_enxame/5
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-RA67v0vtU
“A shounen without a male MC? Choose any vein you want!”
Not so fast there, Sonic. See, this isn’t a shounen. It’s a…
Skip this like your high school friends’ funerals.
Shirogane no Ishi Argevollen
Animation Production: Xebec (Bottle Fairy, Cyber Team in Akihabara, Martian Successor Nadesico)
Manga: N/A
It doesn’t look impressive, but that’s mostly cuz it doesn’t look like anything. This is the kinda show you watch by paying only so much attention to it as you have to, as you plan out the rest of your day. Enjoy your productivity.
Hana Yamata
Animation Production: Madhouse Studios (Trigun, Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi, Texhnolyze)
Manga: http://www.batoto.net/read/_/191107/hanayamata_ch1_by_watami-scanlation
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9QdGoGQ9pk
The MC may be useless, and the plot may be cancer (a bunch of girls dance around in expensive outfits for no reason whatsoever), but there’s enough carpet-munching to warrant a look.
redditor-tier (0-4/10)
Futsuu no Joshikousei ga Locodol Yattemita (Locodol)
Animation Production: feel. (Yosuga no Sora, Corpse Princess, Outbreak Company)
Manga: N/A
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmEfZXWpShM
Where the fuck’s my Dark_Sage idol anime? Bad-tier’d out of jealousy.
Shounen Hollywood -Holly Stage for 49-
Animation Production: ZEXCS (Onamori Himawari, The Legend of the Legendary Heroes, Aku no Hana)
Manga: N/A
If you can make it through the entirety of that trailer, you probably hate your free time enough to justify giving this show a watch.
Magimoji Rurumo
Animation Production: J.C. Staff (Nothing worth listing.)
Manga: N/A
It’s a love comedy with a dumbdere loli and some pathetic MC. Please don’t make me review the subs for this. I’ve seen the show about 50 times already, and it only gets worse with each viewing. ;_;
Jinsei (La Bonne Vie)
Animation Production: feel. (Outbreak Company, Corpse Princess, Yosuga no Sora)
Manga: N/A
Cute girls doing boring things. Who the fuck keeps creating this shit? Just make them do interesting things, Japan. It’s that easy.
Dramatical Murder
Animation Production: NAZ (Hamtaro Season 2)
Manga: N/A
All I know about this sequel to Mekakucity Actors is that I saw some fat chicks cosplaying the characters at Anime North.
As I am not a fat chick, I don’t think I’m the target audience. If you are one, I suggest exercising rather than watching this shit. You’ll probably thank me later.
Summary Slide
There is no summary slide.
For once I agree with everything here. *Claps*
American, I presume?
Hana Yamata can actually be more than ‘mediocre’.
You know, same studio and director as No Game No Life (don’t you blame me, it was actually good.)
So much implying.
>implying implications
Hanayamata is AotS.
Penguindrum was made by Brain’s Base, not Silver Link.
Ah, you’re right. I missed that they were animation production cooperation — not animation production — for that show.
Not to mention JC Staff has made plenty of worthwhile anime…
It’s almost like that’s the joke…
Dark_Sage using a preposition as though it were a conjunction. Sasuga Dark_Sage. What a grammar pleb.
Anyway, that fucking Jinsei image. I don’t even.
I love the examples you’re using
They’re not rolling out hits though. Last worthwhile JC Staff anime was maybe… Nodame? And then before that, probably Honey & Clover. They’re a bit hit and miss, and I’m not sure if they’ll ever scale the heights of those two series again :S
Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo was 2013.
Yeah, and it sucked hard. Note the “worthwhile” disclaimer I added to my previous insight :D
J.C.Staff pls.
They’re seriously restless since 2010 or whatever.
Ya know, I had a feeling that you would rate Jinsei in that tier… Aw well, we all can’t like the same stuff. I wish you luck in watching what you like.
How did you do that scramble thing? Is it a filter in Photoshop or something?
All photo manipulation on Crymore is done in the Microsoft Paint Image Editing Utility, which is superior to Photoshop in numerous ways. Mainly, that it’s free and doesn’t confuse me.
For that “effect” I just highlighted what seemed like every other column and flipped it. Then I did the same for the rows. I’m such an artiste~
Ah…I see that you are quite well versed in the MSPain fu…
Thank you for the information! :))))
Dark_Sage goes hard in MS Paint.
So hard that he doesn’t even need to look at the Help feature! Excluding when he does…
Will you be making those eye-canc… sorry, eye-catching 3-D graphs this season?
I shall considerate it.
Where does the image with “I’m sixteen.” come from?
Seirei. I’d planned to go a different direction with the commentary for it, but the image I ended up taking out looked so good in the preview that I had to keep it.
The other difference between Seirei and its source material is that Claire is actually useful between bouts of destroying everything. The female cast also seems much more perverted here…
I actually enjoyed the first few chapters of Akame ga Kill enough to be decently excited about the anime…But MC-kun is just so worthless it hurts…
White Fox for president.
Someone really needs to sub Gekkan Shoujo… Q^Q
Such a disappointment that no one is planning to sub it at this point.
horrible is fine. are you the kind of person who waited 8 months for commie Space Dandy ‘subs’?
I watched the dub, personally.
Wasn’t the dub a lot better though?
