Opening. Spot-on colors, sensible font, and clever choices combine for a quality offering. The rainbow bits were super sugoi.

This week on Fansub Mysteries: The Case of the Confusing Chyuu.

Chyuu replaced some of the l’s in their script with capital i’s. But only some. (Capital i bolded in the following dialogue.)

Dialogue: 10,0:02:47.64,0:02:51.73,Main,,0,0,0,,U-Um, ghouIs should hide themselves from the rest of the world, right?

Strangely, rather than being a case of the two characters displaying differently, they appear exactly the same in the release.

I’d normally be inclined to mark this as a mistake due to redudancy (“whatcha-ma-call-it” and “thing”), but I think in this context the addition of “thing” actually makes the line better. The speaking character is a jackass, and the smarmy phrasing matches his personality.

So even if it wasn’t intentional, good job, Chyuu.

It’s actually “If you’d like”. You might hear people drop the ‘d in informal conversation, but if you really wanted to turn the subs into a dub script, they’d be unreadable.

The script as a whole was pretty competent, but a few stand-out issues with the English really hurt the overall product. Still, I don’t have much of a problem recommending this. Just depends on whether I’d recommend it over the yet-to-be-reviewed releases.

  1. capital I/lowercase L is because Ryuk’s a doodoo and he uses OCR to rip scripts (I guess the official release is hardsubbed).

    You saw this that time he somehow convinced you to QC Inari Konkon and there were ‘lnari’s all over the place.

    And it’s weird that they just decided to show how the “i”s and “L”s display with that font in their subs, why would they do that? At least make a TL note or something if you’re going to do that. I can’t believe you allowed this D_S, dissapointed in you too, for shame.

    I added that error in myself after changing it about 4+ times to fit the dialogue.

    Forgot to change the color on this because of them switching the ED around from a black background like before with the slideshow.

  7. That’s weird, the ending doesn’t look like that when you go into fullscreen on MPC, were you not in fullscreen when doing the review?

        • Probably, I messed around with the options and could not make it look like the screenshot that Ryuk posted, his screenshot is pretty weird in resolution too.

            • No, what Ryuk meant is that his screenshot is what it should look like, but because D_S seeked to the middle of the line, the splitter did not pass the two mask subtitles to xy-VSFilter, so it ends up looking like what D_S has.

              And I have no idea what Danuchiha99 is doing.

              • Yeah, when are they going to fix that? I imagine it could cause a few problems when you’re chaptering too if the chapter comes in *after* the mask has already started.

                • actually, u just adjust the chapter by fractions of a second. but yeah it’s annoying. not sure if there is anything that can realistically be done about it in terms of skipping around videos.

              • Lol… I just saw that if you just don’t skip to the ending and watch the whole episode or skip to the part before the ending, then that problem wouldn’t happen…

          • Well, that’s because it wasn’t fullscreen in MPC. I just did a capture area on puush, then realized that I don’t keep my pictures on puush for that long, so I put it on Imgur. The Case of the Confusing Ryuk.

            • Press [1!] in your keyboard and then use the puush Capture Current Window (It’s usually Ctrl+Shift+[2@]. This is the way I do capture now for quick sharing. Pressing [1!] will put your MPC into minimal mode which is basically the video without the player panels.

    • A+ visual grades shouldn’t be too rare. All you have to do to hit it is provide “Good” or above karaoke alongside typesetting a significant amount of signs, including those which no sane group would bother with.

      An A+ script… now that’s gonna be rare.
