Waiting for BDs.
Commie added a dick in the OP of Cross Ange.
Fucking Commie.
Screenshot?
I have no idea how to post an image, but here’s the link. It is softsubbed though.
Edit: Okay I learned how to post an image. Top is HS, bottom is Commie.
W-Where are the images?
Isn’t it displaying? It looks fine on my computer.
Well here’s the link: https://data.archive.moe/board/a/image/1412/61/1412614706556.jpg
Nice dick.
Ah, not sure why but I don’t see it on my screen. Link isn’t working either, but I think it’s just coz the archive is down.
It’s all working fine for me dude. The problem might be at your end O_o.
Yeah, not sure why but I can’t connect to the archive at all.
donten warau sucks
False.
But it’s super duper gay
False.
All right, I tried to watch Reconguista and couldn’t tolerate it for more than 5 minutes, so as far as I’m concerned Build Fighters Try is the only Gundam show airing this season.
Screw you Tomino.
I have a hard time understanding why you would rate World Trigger at a 6 while rating Reconguista at a 3. World trigger was absolutely boring garbage.
But the animation and art were top-tier, right?
That just shows how worse Reconguista was.
Damn, that Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso OP is earcandy.
Indeed. No need for a “Best OP” poll this season because Shigatsu is so far ahead of the competition.
No kidding.
I’ve had Kaylith’s working script version of it loop-played in Aegisub.
But madan’s and nanatsu’s OP are also great.
There’s plenty of good OPs, Shingeki no Bahamut’s is super sexy, Sora no Method’s is like Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso-good and World Trigger’s made watching the first episode worth it.
Can’t really remember any ED that stood out aside from Trinity Seven’s and Sora no Method’s.
Ore Twintail is AOTY
Is it just me, or is there an unusual amount of medieval stuff this season?
Guys, HS or Commie (or Hatsuyuki?) for UBW? I hear CR made some translation mistakes.
And I doubt Commie or Hatsuyuki are fixing them, so there’s that.
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/94558
Stay away from hatsuyuki, Commie did a better job than HS but it is not worth the wait in my opinion.
Wow, that’s quite an impressive effort.
This is great.
Not even me with my superior encoding habilities at meGUI and avisynth can make such quality possible.
Day 57: Still waiting UTW’s IM@s Movie and F/SN…
Typically it’s better to go with HS for shows than Commie as Commie tends to make scripts worse. However, Commie has better typesetting, so it depends on how much you care about that.
HS has poor vídeo quality. I wish there was a group with broadcast raws that is not filterfucked like hatsuyuki’s.
Commie fixed CR’s tl errors, though. (or so I was told)
Hating on commie when it’s clearly the better one here. The CR video also has atrocious banding.
Note that I said typically. In about 80-90% of their shows, their scripts are made so much worse by overlocalization and trolling.
Kristen, resident expert on judging script quality.
Yeah, I’m thinking of going with Commie. I heard they did a good job with F/Z, and I’m guessing they care about this enough not to add dicks in the OP.
I can’t believe I’m still bringing this up, but messing up terminology in the first episode =/= doing a good job on F/Z. That said, out of the current options they are the best for UBW. Hatsuyuki did an original TL for their release which in terms of editing I’d say is about on par with CR’s script, meaning watchable but with some really questionable lines in a number of places, whereas Commie’s release got rid of pretty much all the poorly-written lines CR had. Also, Commie has a TLC on the project so most things that CR mistranslates will probably be fixed.
Citation needed.jpg
The only person that would tlc is doing so for UTW. All Commie ever fixes is what people are nice enough to point out to them before release.
How about one of the staffers working on Commie’s version?
We have a TLC.
Needless to say that UTW’s will probably be more faithful to the terminology than ours, but it is being checked to the best of a lesser fanatic’s ability, I’d imagine.
What terminology is there to be faithful to? The VN’s just fan translation; it’s not even official. Raze(UTW’s typemoon fanatic) had his whole Fate experience in Japanese anyway and uses his own terminology as far as I know. UTW staffer said Raze isn’t even working on it. (assuming the project actually comes to light)
Yeah, I don’t really give a rat’s ass about “correct terminology” provided it’s consistent and makes sense in context.
Yeah, that’s how I look at it. There’s a whole ton of VNfags out there who are literally exploding if they don’t see exactly what they want, though. :c
I think you can comfortably ignore translation complaints from people whose understanding of the franchise and its terminology stem from the festering pile of shit that is takajun’s fate/stay night
Oh yeah, for sure.
Everyone basing their standards on a shit unofficial TL is just hilarious.
Amazing how Takajun’s F/SN translation changes from “God like” to “Shit” in just a few years. I guess even translations experience rotational velocidensity.
Hey, first time I should give my regards to Kristen for perfectly capturing my thoughts.
Pretty sure it was regarded at “amazing” just because it’s F/SN. Same type of thing that happens when groups only sub popular shows and the translation is readable. They’re part of the hypetrain and people regard them as based. I talk to a bunch of people who read VNs in JP and I think the general opinion is that the F/SN translation is ass and takajun produces stilted translations.
Perhaps, KoolKidsK, but years ago I remember talking to some of the best regarded translators in the anime scene and they all were saying that Takajun was a god among men.
The fansub scene has increased its standards a lot since the early 2000s. A lot of releases I used to consider good turn out to be very mediocre when I rewatch them today.
And the Mirror-Moon FSN translation isn’t very good. It was fine by that era’s standards, but it hasn’t aged very well. Kinda like any Eclipse release.
I give Takajun props for actually translating nearly 4MB of text, but his shit hurts to read. I mean, not like there’s any choice if you want to read F/SN in English, but it does the original work a pretty big disservice.

http://ask.fm/moogy0/answer/113221579220
It’s not just the prose, either – there are a lot of little inaccuracies along the way. In a way, it’s good because it meant a lot of English speakers were able to experience FSN (me included), but in an arguably more significant way, it’s kinda bad because it’s pretty unlikely that the game will ever get a better translation, and now everyone thinks Nasu is some hack writer who comes up with torturous prose, dumb statements like “people die when they are killed”, and has an unhealthy fixation with mollusks – all pretty much the translation’s fault. There just isn’t a business case to do it over because everyone downloaded and played through the game however many years ago.
Such is life.
While all that is editing that you linked, it still has nothing to do with the idea that a few years ago, his translation quality was called godly, and now it’s called shit.
Did it occur to you that perhaps different people may have made these statements? I mean, there are still people calling it godly today. I saw one less than five minutes ago on another site. Different people have different opinions – halt the fucking presses.
And no, Moogy is not just talking about “editing”. Your translation/editing distinction is bullshit anyway because it’s like you think you can handwave away nonsensical Engrish by saying “oh, it’s just editing, the correct information is buried in there somewhere”. A translation that is poorly written enough to provide a significantly worse reading experience than the original text is a poor translation, plain and simple, to say nothing of all the parts where no English speaker could reasonably be expected to grasp the actual meaning behind the text.
No Xythar. Calling editing/flow a translation mistake is usually a sign of a poor translator doing the review.
The fact that you dissociate “editing” and “translation” so as to stuff them into such neat little compartments really just goes to show how unqualified you are to discuss either subject.
EDIT: Got ninja’d by Xythar, but I’ll leave this here anyway.
Okay Kristen, I will bow to your superior Japanese knowledge over the guy who actually knows the language and has read like 100+ VNs and countless other books in the language he’s talking about. Clearly you are the expert on translations here, and he doesn’t know shit.
You’re not questioning my translation abilities, Xythar. You’re questioning the translation abilities of people who currently translate for crunchyroll.
But it doesn’t take any knowledge of Japanese to understand that two things that mean the same thing and are written in different ways are a matter of editing, not translation. But you know, you want to pretend that having an elementary Japanese proficiency makes you an expert, go right ahead. Maybe if you keep at it you can become a good translator and stop being a shitty editor.
Based on some of the CR translations I’ve seen, I’m not sure those are very meaningful credentials.
K3 already gave a pretty reasonable explanation above. If you like, feel free to get your TL friends to take a look at the VN in its original Japanese and compare it to the translation. You might be surprised by the results.
While you’re at it, ask them what makes a good script. Maybe if you actually figure that out one day, you can become something other than a laughing-stock fansubber.
Oh, there’s that rotational velocidensity again.
CR starts licensing – OMG, these translations are amazing! These are going to kill fansubs! We’re going to disband!
Commie takes over fansubbing – CR is OK, but you need us! Download us! Give us money! Trust us, we’re better at translation, and if you question us you are unqualified to talk about it.
Yep, there is clearly nothing wrong with CR’s Chuu2Ren or Haikyuu whatsoever. Paid professionals can do no wrong, as quoth the mighty Kristen. CR’s UBW subs are also perfect and have made absolutely no embarrassing mistakes whatsoever. I’m sure this has everything to do with “rotational velocidensity” and nothing to do with CR licensing more and more shows and being able to pay its translators less and less, meaning that less and less qualified translators get hired. Everything is the cartel’s fault.
By the way, I’m not just talking out of my ass here – every opinion I state about translation quality is backed up by people who know what the fuck they’re talking about. Based on the quality of translations I’ve seen out of Chihiro, I’m not too confident that you’re in the same position.
Most all things people point out as a TL mistake by CR is just poor editing. And I don’t blame them – they are solo projects.
Which is exactly what I’m saying. You’re just pretending editing is translation, and trying to say “But I have more experience than you!” to make it seem like a legit argument. Whether you spell it Potato, Potatoe, or Brown Round Root, it means the same thing.
Yes, translating 赤い as white is a good example of poor editing.
It doesn’t take any translation proficiency to know that is red. You get that from 5 minutes of looking at color names.
Does that say anything about that translator? No, not really. Just like how last week on my cooking and recipes test I subtracted 48 from 53 and got 6 (btw, I graduated with a math degree and have tutored upper level math for a living for 3 years now). It’s a careless mistake made from rushing, not a statement of how good or bad a person is at their specialty.
Yes, I know. The obvious stuff is “careless mistakes” to you, and the subtler stuff is “editing issues”. That way, the translators never have to be accountable for anything.
I think we’ve veered from the original point far enough, but I can assure you CR’s translators are not remotely infallible. I know this because I’ve worked on lots of CR scripts with assistance from TLCs who actually fix shit (as opposed to the phantom TLCs you claim to have in Chihiro who never actually change anything). Much like fansubs, CR’s translations are a mixed bag.
As I said, feel free to have someone who speaks the language compare the Japanese version of F/SN with TakaJun’s translation. The only people I see defending it online these days are people who never read the original.
Also:
https://www.diffchecker.com/w2tdcl3e
Good recent example from Akame. CR (left) screwed the pooch on line 14, and as a result, the entire conversation makes no sense. Hardly the kind of thing you can write off as an “editing issue”.
This is why translators need to be mindful of writing coherent English that makes sense – because when the lines get that fucked, no editor can save it without basically getting a translator to redo them.
You’re going to need a lot more than 1 example.
Regardless, let’s pretend that you are right for a sec. The people who called Takajun good years ago were on CR years ago – before the time you say they started underpaying and lowering their quality.
Though you know, that’s the funny thing about CR. People whine about translation accuracy and have their amateur translators try to fix it up. But you know, if your amateur translator is that good that he thinks he’s better than a professional, why isn’t he translating it in the first place? Laziness? Then you obviously don’t care about the show, and are just doing it for money in donations.
Yes, all that money Vivid and Asenshi collect through the complete lack of donation buttons or advertising on their sites. What the hell does that even have to do with whether CR’s translations are accurate or not, anyway? Are you literally that goddamn brain-damaged that you’re only capable of spouting the same three points of rhetoric regardless of what the discussion is actually about? Go fuck yourself.
When did I mention Vivid or Asenshi? I’m talking Commie here. Vivid’s subs generally are pretty good (although the localization in Inari made me want to puke).
Let’s look at this reasonably here. Commie is currently made up of something around 40 active staffers. Don’t quote me on that, but that’s probably a good rough estimate. Now the real question is who in Commie actually sees the money being donated, let alone actively gets to control what happens to it. I’m not sure on this, but I’d wager that it’s less than 5 people, not all of whom are actually actively fansubbing. So basically, that means we have at least 35 people who are subbing and don’t see the money. So why would they be subbing? To make people mad? To have fun and troll? To waste their time? Or maybe… Maybe they actually like the show and care about putting out good subs. Just a possibility. Sounds pretty far-fetched, I know. But hey… That’s what you’re good at, right, Kristen?
>Maybe they actually like the show and care about putting out good subs. Just a possibility.
Change “like” to “tolerate” and “good subs” to “adequate-at-best typesets” and you might be onto something.
You have to applaud Kristen’s ability to turn any conversation about any subject whatsoever into a conspiracy theory against Commie.
>Maybe they actually like the show and care about putting out good subs. Just a possibility.
Not saying you’re wrong. Just throwing another possibility in the equation. I pick up projects based on who’s working on them sometimes. Not sure if all fansubbers are like that. In the case of the one show I’m subbing this season, I could care less about the show and more about working and having fun with the people who are also working on it.
There’s still the possibility of using terminology that doesn’t even make logical sense, like the occurrence I was referring to in Commie’s Fate/Zero episode 1. Though not likely when they have a TLC on staff, it could still theoretically happen.
HS just pushed out a v2: https://www.diffchecker.com/pefdiljl
Yeah, CR fixed a ton of stuff.
Hmmm… I have to say I liked UTW’s summoning incantation in F/Z a hell of a lot more than Commie’s in UBW. I’m assuming it is the same incantation?
This one doesn’t sound very… ritual-y.
Holy shit, UTW actually rose from the ashes to do UBW.
I’m not really sure what to think, but I guess I’ll go with them for old times’ sake.
well, they back http://utw.me/2014/10/14/fatestay-night-unlimited-blade-works-00/
AAAAND a CR edit.
Well, better than dicks and http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/94558
Apparently Hatsu released a v2 with a better encode.
Yeah, better now.
> 2 to Sora no Method
Are you a loli hater or just bad taste? The first episode was great IMO.
Once the drama starts up, you’re going to regret ever liking the show.
But I love drama ‘-‘
I was really hyped for it and loved the first episode but it left a lot of things out in the open, and while I know they’ll all be answered eventually it really bothered me for some reason, but at least the misunderstanding was good.
Second episode was really good mainly for the fact that it makes it look like MC wasn’t the only one who got a PTSD and forgot everything (I swear for whatever reason this episode made me think MC has/had a twin or something), now I’m really hyped to know what actually happened to them when they were kids.
But D_S isn’t really a non-shoujo drama guy so I can’t see him enjoying this that much.
I’m not following a MAL synopsis ever again, they changed it now but Trinity Seven’s first synopsis was so misleading, what a piece of crap this turned out to be, it’s just insulting at this point, considering how promising the first 10 minutes of the first episode looked this makes me really sad.
It gets back to that! Mostly it’s just harem romcom with an open pervert male lead, though, so you should probably give up if you don’t like that sort of thing.
Parasyte: Watashi or Underwater?
Watashi’s doing an original translation.

Underwater
Goddamn it forgot the name field -shark
Dark_Sage, what 2-cour shows have you seen all the way through to the end lately (in the past year)?
What ratings would you give these shows?
…none?
Perhaps Shigatsu will be the first.
http://prntscr.com/53gvb3
this shit is gold
Parasyte episode 6+ is amazing. Shigatsu is still better though.
>Denki-gai dropped
Why do you have such shit taste?
