Visual Review
Karaoke.
N/A. The OP and ED are in Engrish.
Typesetting.
Pretty standard Funi fare. Like most of you, I would rather starve than consume it.
Script Review
Main Script.
Much like the TL, it’s an easily dispatched mob, so just call it a Horseman of the Apocalypse.
If your brain doesn’t need to do a few loops to understand this line fully, you should probably be worried that you’re working on the same wavelength as this TL.
Awkwardly unnatural. And how does one get mocked completely? I mean, I’m even holding back (for brevity) in this post, so I can’t begin to imagine a scenario that fits this line.
Funimation, leading the human race to the bottom.
What’s up with that, indeed.
Guess Funi’s TL is channeling their VAs in this line by trying desperately to get in touch with high schoolers. Works about as well here as it does for said VAs. Sorry Mr. Mignogna, not even desperate teens are impressed by $30k salaries.
Unless you have a can of Pringles, some bubble wrap, and a sufficient amount of lube, you’re not gonna be making a girlfriend. The verb you want here is “get” as in “get fucked, Funi”.
While “livestock” is technically uncountable (much like the mistakes in this release), common use dictates you should always use it in the plural sense.
“Then work for it, like livestock.”
A friendly reminder that Funimation charges real money for these subs.
I suppose one of these would be a good gift for someone you hate.
wouldn’t
She’s dead, you insensitive fuckbags.
Something tells me the translator is part of the target audience for Dashcon.
will -> would
How ESL do you have to be to fuck this up?
Take a bath in razor blades, Funimation. You clearly need it.

Watchability: Unwatchable.
Overall grade: Fail.
There are less boring ways to sate your masochistic desires than watching Funimation’s Seraph release. Go with DDY or Vivid for Owari no Seraph. I recommend the latter, but I’ll back that opinion up in a later post (with more examples of why Funimation can’t /English).
Even better, drop the show and save yourself 24 minutes a week.
As for Funi’s episode 3?
I’ve always wondered how it is official subs are so bad and there are good fansubs out there. Shouldn’t the people who know how to translate and currently doing it for free and the people who want to pay for translation work be able to work this out?
Every year, I try to offer my services to Funi when I go to their booth at my anime convention. Every year, they turn me down because “I don’t have a degree in the relevant field”.
Here’s what I want to know: HOW THE FUCK DID THESE PEOPLE EARN THEIR DEGREES IF THIS IS THE SHIT THEY PUT OUT?
Do you work with a sub-group then?

Heh, so that’s a yes.
I’m sorry if i get to offend you but, What is stopping you from getting a degree?
And btw, I’m pretty sure some early manga scanlators have become the official translators for the official english release, i don’t know if the had a degree though.
I doubt someone would get a degree so they could work with FUNi, hell, I don’t see why anyone would want to work with FUNi period.
I got a degree so I wouldn’t have to work at somewhere like Funi.
they keyword is “relevant”
iirc, they want a degree in japanese
lmao
Maybe their hiring criteria should include “knows basic conversational English” first.
Wouldn’t one in English be more relevant? You don’t need a degree in Japanese to translate it if you’re Japanese, an editor ends up needing more skill I’d imagine.
It’s easy to get a degree in English in a non-English country.
Correction…Funi pro subs are bad and continue to remain bad. CR has gotten their shit together over time. Only a few real misses. I question how anyone can actually pay for that service.
Literally everything about their final product has a problem.
As someone who dropped out of the anime scene between the years of 2010 and 2015 I can attest to the marked improvement in Crunchyrolls service I could see on my return. It too several weeks before I realized people weren’t discussing watching anime on crunchyroll as a joke.
Sasuga, Funi.
Still better than DDY version.
Would totally pay 20 extra dollars if the dubs had these subs as their script/10.
I hate funimation because I have to correct the messed up color from their releases (horriblesubs rips) in Media Player Classic. Yes, you heard me. I can’t even correct the color issue they have by using their own shitty streaming service. Rips literally provide a better experience, even if it’s the exact same fucking video.
Oh, their typesetting sucks ass too, I made a forum topic to complain about this matter on their shitty website, left them some comments and I even sent them an e-mail to their “support” service, guess what, nothing happened.
Am I surprised that their subs still suck dick? No. I should have complained about that as well, even if it wouldn’t have made a difference.
Edit: If you are interested in how to fix the color issue that funi has, here you go:
If you’re downloading rips, you can easily fix the messed up colors by going (in MPC) to View -> Renderer Settings -> Output Range, and setting that to 16 – 235.
Pretty sure you can fix it by just pressing Ctrl + Shift + Alt + I, until TV shows up (I think? Someone ought to correct me on that because I forget exactly) and press F2 to save it, no expert on the matter but I think the problem is that usually this setting is marked and MPC detects it automatically but with FUNi rips it’s not and MPC just default to whatever.
That’s only if you’re using MadVR as your video renderer on MPC-HC. If you use EVR-CP (default for CCCP), you do what pi said.
Using the debanding filter in MadVR also fixes Funi’s terrible banding issues.
>I can’t even correct the color issue they have by using their own shitty streaming service. Rips literally provide a better experience, even if it’s the exact same fucking video.
Yeah… there is no issues with the color if you’re using their stream. Don’t lie about paying for something that you didn’t pay for
I keep getting mixed reports about that. It was widely believed that their player assumes that the input is PC range (and displays luma correctly) until someone posted screenshots showing that, no, the player is assuming TV range (and displaying luma incorrectly).
B-But muh supporting the industry.
If Funi bankrupt, CR will be able to license all show and produce far better subs than them, so…
“If Funi bankrupt, CR will be able to license all show and produce far better subs than them”
You might want take that economy 101 class in your community college.
Would the sub quality for CR go down if they had more shows though? I guess it’s a good thing FUNi is around, CR just needs to improve their taste and let FUNi have the shit shows.
If they ever give up on that 2005’s bitrate…
Just catering to the audience. Because while we talk about fansub groups and whether they do it for love or money, there’s no debate that CR does it for money. When you do something for money, you produce a product to satisfy a majority of your clients. And truth be told, CR’s clients are not exactly the brightest of the bunch – more wanting low file size and speed than certain aspects like good typesetting or songs.
lol if you think they don’t do the songs because people don’t want them
This looks like a as literally as possible translation. Dam all the grammar and different sentence structures!
Seriously, how can you ask money for this tripe?
and don’t forget that their logo is annoying as hell
I’m suprised D_S didn’t mention it here, this show also has its own logo intro so it takes like 30 seconds before you get to actually watch the episode.
Maybe he’s tired mentioning it all and over again.
