I would say to review Yamishibai since they are all short episodes, about 5 minutes each if I recall correctly, but there’s also 3 seasons of it out right now. Sadly you don’t own it. Other wise I’ll vote for a Durarara review
Eh, it’s $20. Bought. Whether I review it or not is another question though lol.
everything related to monogatari + panty and stocking (i’ve read that the (un)official translator for the famous monster 2 worked on the official release for PSG)
Are they spooky enough? I mean, ougi is spooky her(him?)self, and garterbelt is such an unsettling guy.
You like panty & stocking? The script writer’s gonna be at kumoricon lol.
i love it. The fact is, well, i’m a bit too far away (italy), or i would have come :c
Oh, so this is why shc is going to be away to work on shuumatsu. I knew he was going to Oregon, but I didn’t know it was for a con.
I vote for Casshern Sins — juvenile angst is spooky, isn’t it?
If not, go for Yuki Yuna is a Hero. It’s got a spooky mummy girl in it.
do black lagoon, they have ultra violent incest vampire twins for a couple episodes. or hellsing ultimate for the ghouls and nazi vamps. danke
Fucking Detroit Metal City, mate, can there possibly be a better candidate? The show is amazing and needs more attention imo.
Detroit Metal City sucks though.
Not halloween, but do Sentai’s Angel Beats. I bought it as well (Never watched), but I’m curious to know how bad it is. I just watch UTW ver :/ lol.
If not, do Another.
Another? When did we switch to comedy? :^)
http://www.crymore.net/review_summary/?show=another
The majority of these were based off the CR translation, which I imagine is what the BD or DVD used as well. So reviewing it would kind of be a waste, since from the reviews that have been done it’s fairly clear where the official translation sits in terms of quality. And since that place is “rather good”, it’d be even worse to review because there’s not much to make fun of.
Ah, I see.
from here, maybe Shiki.
Actually, can anyone suggest some really good horror
There’s really good horror in anime?.. Isn’t most of it way too campy and/or action-oriented schlock? I mean, sure, there are some series that are technically “pure” horror, but they’re neither good nor scary imo.
Everything I remember to be remotely unsettling was either not horror at all (e.g. Welcome to the NHK!) or not anime to begin with. I could drop a few live-action movie names if you want, though.
Please do
Personal favorites: Eraserhead (1977) and The Thing (1982). These are just perfect throughout. Out of the more recent ones, the original Ju-on (2002) contained genuinely creepy scenes that weren’t jump scares nor gore explosions; too bad the narrative fails to tie them together in a coherent manner. I’ve also heard extremely good things about The Babadook (2014), but haven’t seen it myself yet.
Some not outright scary yet deeply unsettling (not in the exploitation sense) movies: Don’t Look Now (1973), Come and See (1985), Jacob’s Ladder (1990), Audition (1999), Mulholland Drive (2001, though I guess most other Lynch movies also fit). Some of these left me in a state of extreme despair, Come and See being the obvious stand-out (for this reason I consider it the best war movie ever made; it’s also available on YouTube with workable English subtitles).
There are also a couple movies from my childhood that I remember being pretty good but unfortunately have failed to identify. Other than that, Korean horror scene has been thriving in the last couple decades, and I haven’t explored it at all. The Japanese scene, on the other hand, seems to have become extremely repetitive in the last 10-15 years, flooding the market with terrible sequels no-one ever asked for, the same way Hollywood does it with movies like Paranormal Activity.
I’d say Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl) is a good psychological horror anime.
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is good horror on the gory side.
Gakkou Gurashi is also good, even though it’s rather… unique (If you decide to watch it, I recommend also watching the opening every episode.)
I have the all in plan to watch on MAL but I’ve forgotten why I added Jigoku Shoujo. Looks interesting, might be a good watch .
It’s not.
Why not? I mean, sure it’s repetitive, but apart from that it’s good (even though it makes one hate humanity all over again, but I consider that to be a good thing in a depressing horror show).
I dropped it. It got boring real fast.
You know, getting an average of 4 hours a weekend followed by pulling an all-nighter from Sunday to Monday apparently does not do well for my post output. ._.
I’ll bring a BD or two to my hotel this week and we’ll see what’s up.
So… I was gonna randomize this, but it looks like Yuki Yuna is the only option. PonyCan, don’t let me down.
Jigoku/Higurashi/Gakkou were a response to bozzzzzz request for recommended horror anime though…
I wanna disagree, but if I went back to check I’d probably be proven wrong, so… Welp, time to leave this topic~
